HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-20-1918 Office of the Board of Public Works , 9 City of Richmond , Indiana Tvionda y, May 20, 1918 • The Board of Public Works of the City of ni chmond , Indi ana met in . regular session at the office of the said Board, . Monday, May 20, 1918 , at 9 :00 o' clock, A. M. Two of the mem- bers of said Board being present , Messrs . Taylor & Peitz , absent , Mr. .Johnson.. The, following pr oceedings were had to-wit : Minutes of previous meeting read and were approved. The Clerk read a letter from B. M. Sellars of The Indiana-. Inspection Bureau, in regard to fire insurance at the green- houses at Glen Miller Park. The Board meets to hear all persons interested in or whose pro- . perty is affected by resolution 552-1918 , providing for the im- prove.ment of S. 8th. St . from the north line of S. "H" St . to the South corporation limits of the city of Richmond ; Indiana , of paving the roadway on such portions of said street as is not improved by paving under provisions of the Three Mile Road. Law , which improvement was ordered by the Board of the County Com- missioners on April 1 , 1918 , said street to be paved with one ,of the following kinds of pavements to-wit : Brick, Concrete , Creosoted Wood Block or Bituminous Macadam on Concret •Base. After hearing all persons interested who appeared (No one appear- , ing) the Board decided that the beriifi.ts to property liable to • be assesed for said improvement are equal to the cost of same as reported by the City Civiingineer less the portion of which the Ci ty will pay., The City agrees to pay the cost of Street and . alley intersections. Mr. Peitz moved to donfirm resolution 552- 1918 without modification and for the Clerk to advertise for Bids to be received on Saturday, at 10:00 A. M. June 15 , 1918 . Second- ed by Mr . Taylor . • Mr. S. E. Swayne , of the Swayne Robinson Co . , presented a petition • for. the closing of two certain alleys in the James K. Dugdale ad- dition, ( See Petition) , signed by Sr. E. Swayne , W. P. Robinson, Mrs. W. P. Robinson. the Board referred this matter to .the City Engineer, for plans. • Mr. Howard Horton appeard before the Board to complain of condi - tion of roadway on both sides of Temporary Bridge ' on Main Street . The board referred this matter to the Street Commissioner . hr. Taylor moved to purchase a bicycle for the Market Master . • Seconded by Mr. Peitz. - • Mr. Peitz brought the matter up to the Board in regard to water running in the alley back of Starr Piana Co . The Board referred this matter to the Board of Health. Mr. Davis presented a bill of Asher Winders for the fainting of the stack at the Crematory. Mr. Feltz moved that this bill le allowed and paid. Seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Cutter appeard before the Board as instructed , in regard to his claim against Mr. GrahLem. The Board informed Mr . Cutter to 170 Monday, May 20 ,. 1918 . get the exact date when this bill was contracted for and present to the Board also notifying Mr. Cutter that if this bill was ,contracted for before Mr. Graham was appointed on the Tire Department , they could take no action in the matter . The Board ordered The Street Commissioner to rut street sweer- er down at the old Light plant and not to let it stand on the lot at the Market house onl;r in: case that they would, use it the next day. Mr. Taylor moved that the tool house on South ,lest 1st . be moved down by the Crematory. Seconded by Mr . Pelts . I/ Mr. Dillion reported to the Board the sale of scran copper to the amount of 543.80 Mr. Dillion reported to the Board that Mr. Hiatt had punctured cables of the Ornamental Lighting System in front of 308 Main street , in removing the ga.e olene dispenser . Mr. Pelts moved that Sup' t of the Light Plant repair these and present the bill to the Dougan Jenkins Co . , Mr. Hiatte ' bondsmen. Kr. Taylor reported that he had found old harness which belong to to the City at the J. 0. Wilson barn. Mr. Pelts moved that Mr. Taylor dispose of these at once . Seconded Mr. Taylor . Mr. W. H. Settle appeared before the Board in regard to the stray dogs running at large over the City. The Board inform- ed him that they would turn this matter over to the Police Department. The Board received bids for sewer cleaning machines as follows to-wit : The Improved Sewer Cleaning Machinery Co. , Milwaukee , Wis . Bid : 585.00 F.O.B. Milwaukee . ( See Bid ) H. Stewart, 131 Georgia St . Boston Massachusetts . Bid : 490.00 F.O.B. Richmond. (See Bid ) In connection with above will furnish six sizes Stewart drag t.ya;e buckets for 500.00 The Turbine Sewer Machine Co . Milwaukee , V!is . Bid: - dl500.00 F.O.B. Milwaukee , Wis . ( See Bid ) I/ • Mr. Pelts moved that 'the Board take these rids under consid- eration until after the different companys were given a chance to demonstrate their machines. ,Seconded by Mr. Taylor . Bills for the amount of 9 ,988 .47 were allowed and ordered paid.
