HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-18-1918 '1 Office of the Board of Public Works, 1 , q City of Richmond, Indiana ' Ihursday,April 18 ,1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana met in regular session at the office of the said Board, Thurs- day, April 18 , 1918 at 9 :00 o' clock A. M. Two of the members of said Board being present , Messrs. Taylor and Peitz , absent , Mr. Johnson. The following proceedings were had to-wit : The minutes 'of previous meeting read and were approved. The Clerk read complaints of Council referred to the Board.. These were referred to the Street Commissioner, who stated as so on a s work-'was started on West Side these. c omplaint s will be looked after . Mr. Beshher asked the Board in regard to paying bill from G . H. Elverson Pottery Co. for Flower Pots so as to save the city the di scount . Mr. Peitz moved that this bill be allowed and paid , seconded by Mr. 'aylor;. so ordered . * The Board unanimously adopted improvement re soluti can #551.1918 providing for a cement roadway in the alley between South 2d and 3d Street running from South A street , north to the first alley south of Main Street , thence east to third street and west to 2d Street.. The Board unanimously adopted Improvement Resolution #548-1918 • providing for the improvement of North 2d Street from Main Street, north to apoint weere the C . & 0. Railroad crosses said Second Street. Also north A street from North Second Street to North .3d Street by constructing cement curb and gutter on both sides of street, also paving the roadway the full width • with one of the modern city pavements , to-wit : Bituminous macadam on concrete base , Brick, Concrete or mood Block. Mr. Hollarn brought up the question of Sanitary Drinking Cups at Glen Park, and asked permission of the Board to let mer- chants put advertisement on cups thereby saving the city the cost of cups. Mr. Taylor moved that the Board adopt Mr. Hol- larn' s plan, seconded by Mr. Feltz, so ordered. Mr. Bradeen appeared before the Board in regard to having city improve the property at 618 N. lOth which belongs to the city , by papering and repairing the porch . The matter of rerairi ng the porch was' referr ed to the Building inspector, and the Board advised Mr. Bradeen they would investigate the matter of paper- . . . I . dng this property. . The Clerk presented the complaint of D.O.Hodgin, 301 Nat ' l Ave. of the bad condition of gutter at this location. The Board re - ferred this to the Street Commissioner. * The Clerk presented a petition for improvement of alleys between South 2d and 3d st . from So. A st. north to 1st alley south of . Lain Street : and 1st alley south of main street from South 2d to - 3d street,provid ng for cement roadway in alley 1st south of Main • ,' , street from S. 2d to 3d st ,also alley between So. 2d & 3d St. from 1st alley so . of Lain street to south A street . 1 54 Thursday ,Apr 11 18 ,1918 The Board unanimously adopted Declaratory resolution No . 119-1918 providing for the widening of North Third Street , as follows :- Beginning at the intersection of the present East Line of North Third Street with the south line of North D street , and running' thence east along the South Line of North L street forty-four (44' ) feet to a point distant thirty five feet-,- measured perpendicularly, from the said • • present east line of North third Street; thence Southwest- wardly, parallel to the said Bart line of North Third street • and distant thirty-five feet therefrom, to intersect the East Line of said North Third Street; thence Northwardly and Northeastwardly, along the present East Line of North Third Street, to the place of beginning. • The Board ordered the Street Oommi ssi oner to have the Road Roller repa it ed. Mr. Peitz moved. that the Board recommend that the week be- ginning May 6th as Clean-Up Week , seconded. by Mr. Taylor, so ordered.. The Board ordered the 'Jlerk to instruct the Janitor to put ashes from furnace in cans and to assist man from street department to put same on wagons. - The Board. fixed May 6th, as the time to hear remonstrna.ces against ammendment of contract of Hackman-Kleh.fo th & Co . , to place a switch track on North F. Street . The Board received bids for Storm ater Sewer on North 7th ;;trett running from North ri street to North D street under improvement Resolution #549-1918 , as follows ;- D.G.Burkhardt , bid $4.14 per linear foot This bid being the only one submitt ed and being within the estimate of the City =engineer, Mr. Feltz moved the bid. be accepted and contract awarded to Mr. Burkhardt , seconded by Mr. '!'aylor ,, so ordered . The Board. confirmed Improvement Resolution #547-1918 for a cement roadway in the alley between S . 21st and 22d Street from A• street south to the north line of' tract 537 ,Official Map• The Clerk was ordered to advertise for bids.
