HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-08-1918 14.7 Office of the Board of Public Works, ° o City of Richmond , Indiana Monday, April, 8 , 1918 The Board of Public Works of the City oflichmond, Indiana • met in regular session at the office of the said Board , Mon- day April 8th at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. All of the members of said Board being present, Messrs. Johnson, .Taylor & Peltz , The. following proceedings were had tto-wit:- • The minutes of previous meeting read snd were approved. Mr. Ed. Feltman appeared before. the Board in regard to the alley between South 8th and 9th Street from H. to I street, -stating that when the improvement was made on South H. street it left a high bank in front of this alley and abed the Board if they could have the street Department dig th i s out so to let teams drive in without going to I street. The Board informed Mr. k'eltman they would investigate this matter. . Mr. Taylor brought up the matter referred to him b.y Ed Harris in regard to using north A gtreet from 10th to llth street for Sousa' s Band on Wednesday sday Evening April 10th. Mr. Johnson moved that the Board grant the Band the use of this square and that the Street Commissioner furnish barricades, seconded by Mr. Pelts , so ordered. • Mr. Denham appeared before the Board and presented a petition for a five foot cement walk on both sides of North A street from North 18th to 19th street, signed by Qha-rles. M. Denham , Charlotte M. Denham, Geo. W. Abey, and Marthy J. .Abey. ' Mr. Johnson moved that this be referred to the Uity Engineer for plans and specifications , seconded. by Mr. Taylor•,so ordered. Mr. Davis brougltup the question of moving house at LightPlant The Board ordered the street Commissioner to furnish team and for the Utility Man to go ahead and move the house. The Board took up the question of Street Department under the supervision of the Engineering Department After some discussion the Board decided that they should remain so and these departments work in harmony with each other. Mr. Johnson moved:-:that the Clerk notify the German Fire Insurance Company and. Richmond Maennerchor in regard to rent for room which they use, seconded by Mr. Peltz, so ordered. The Mayor suggested that German Fire - Insurance Company change their name. The Clerk was instructed to make this request of . 11 J. H. Bode, Secretary. Mr. Dillon brought up the matter of light at 8th and Main street being dim on Thursday arl Sunday night . Mr. Johnson moved that thisbe left to Mr. Lillon to put up some kind of a light that will illuminate this corner, seconded by Mr. Peitz , so ordered.. I 48 Monday, A.pril 8 ,1918 Mr. Taylor brought up the matter referred to him by Mr. Howell for placing alight at Earlham gate. The Board re- ferred this to Mr. Dillon. Mr. Miller haided in the resignation of Herbert =.ay of the Fire Department . After looking over applications Mr. Peitz • moved that the resignation of Mr. Aay be accepted and Herbert Haustette±s application be accepted, seconded by lar. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Davis brought up the ma:.t ter of advertising for bids for collecting or garbage:: Mr. Feltz moved that the Clerk adver- - tise for bids for collecting garbage for the year, for col- lecting and cleaning and sanitary disposition of garbage ac- • . cording to plane of city Engineer and city will furnish crematory as it is , seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered . • :The Board took up the question in the matter of petition of Fred Hackman and Jno. Niewoehner for the improvement of South 8th and 9th Street granted the County Commissioners by resolutions March 18th. This matter was referred to City . Engineer for plans and speci fications for city' s part. • Mr. Dillon reported to the Board that the lights went out Saturday night and recommended putting up fence around plant to guard against trespassers. The Board ordered the Lingin- .eer to get estimates on fence. . The Board approved v .riotls pay rolls up to and including • April 6th , 1918.
