M. All of the members of said Board being present, Messrs. Johnson Taylor and Peitz. The following . proceedings were had to-wit : - The minutes of previous meeting read and were approved. The Board unanimously adopted Declaratory Resolution #118-1918 for the vacation of the second alley West of Sheridan Street running from Laurel street to the first alley north, running east and west between lots 20 and 21 , Railsback addition. The Board rejected the bid of the Eaton Oil Works for Oil for the seasecn of 19181 and ordered the Clerk to return their cer- tified check for 41O0.00. The Clerk read a proposal from the Barrett Co. , of Cincinnati , Ohio on Tartia "B" . After some dtcuss ion this was referred to City Engineer and City Attorney. . Mr. Johnson stated that the Board went over to the Letention Hospital and investigated the possibility of taking gravel out near the hospital . In order to get gravel it would be necessary to move the pest house.. It was referred to City Attorney to see how close it can be placed away from the residence. 1 44 - Monday , April 1, 1918 Mr. Peitz brought up the matter of the German Fire Insurance Company using the .room at the #4 Hose House without paying rent. Mr. Peitz moved that 25.00 quarterly be charged .to this company commencing January, 1918, payable in advance,: on condition that the room is not subletted, seconded by ter. Taylor, so ordered . Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of Richmond Maennerchor using the room at old x4ngine Rouse at South 6th aril E street without paying rent. Mr. Peitz moved that they be charged $5.00 per month, payable in advance commencing with January, 1918 on condtion that the room is not subletted, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so . ordered . Mr. Johnson stated that they had investigated the matter of / putting lights on South 10th and South 5th streets referred to the Board by Council and had recommended to Supt . of Light Plant to put lights on South 10th at H. and J. streets and on South 5th at L. street. Mr. Peitz moved . that the signs marking the corporation limits be taken down, repa4rited, and the reading on the signs changed, seconded by '"`r. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Johnson stated that the Parking space at Market House needs cleaning. . The Board referred this to the City engineer ail Street Commissioner . Mr. Peitz. moved that when the Road Roller Engineer can' t work on the streets that he IDe put on other work under the 'direc- tion of the City Engineer and Street Commissioner, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of analyzing of various chemicals for the city and stated that the schools would buy apparatus to test all chemicals if they had encouragement from the city. Mr. Johnson moved that they ask the. schools to in- stall apparatus, seconded by.uir. Yeltz, so ordered. Mr,. Peitz presented the following report on insurance on City Property; To the Honorable idgeyor and Common Council of the City of Richmond :- Your Board of Works have given the question of City Insuranc e very careiiil consideration and have spent some time deliber- ating our needs and because of our financial condition, which must be considered, we are recommending only nominal amounts on each item. . The Green House will not be considered until finished , and with your permission we will take care of the i.nsurdng at the prop- er time. Monday, April 1, 1918 45 Insurance is being carried on the two Park dwellings, park Barn, Pavilion and old South 6th Street Hose House and con- sidered ample at this time. We therefore recommend three year policies on the following items : - City Building , $5000.00; Office contents $2000.O0; #1 Hose House $4000.00; No. 3 Hose House $2500:00, 44 Hose House $2500.00; #5 Hose House $2500.00 Total, p18,500.00. Total premium three years. ►359.16. Light plant Building, $5000.00; Machinery and contents $50,000.00; total $55,000.00, premium one year $805.20. We , your board of Public Works ask your kind consideration for an appropriation of $1200.00 to cover this amount of insurance. Wm. 'N. Johnson, Thos C . Taylor, John E. Peitz. The Board referred this to Council. The matter of putting apa.rtition in the :Engineer' s room was discussed and Mr. Peitz moved that the partition in Engineer' s room be made and Engineer Look after setting it up, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Dillon brought up the question of an appropriation for in- stalling boiler and other equipment at Light Plant. The Board insturcted Mr. Dillon to make a list of equipment needed so as to ask for one appropriation to cover the whole amount , also to hold up present appropriation asked for of $2500.00. Mr. Dill of the Llichmond Water Works Company appeared before the Board in regard to r'lush Tanks stating that they had these Flush Tanks cut down to such a low pressure that the ieters failed to register and that it took a certain amount of flow of water to register. The Board instructed Mr. Dill to take this matter up with the City Engineer and estimate these meters that had stopped by an average of the other meters for the month. Mr. Johnson moved that the City Engineer issue order. that all employees of the Street Dept. take one hour for dinner, seconded by Mr. Feltz, so ordered. • Mr. Johnson moved that the City purchase gravel of Jno. Underhill at the price of 25d per load providing Mr. bnderhilI signs an - agreement to this effect, ' seconded by Mr. Peitz, so ordered. The Board recommemled the Controller to draw up ordinance for an appropriation to buy the Building Inspector a bicycle and recom- mend same to Council . The Board instructed the Clerk to advertise for bids on Tarvia "B" or something similar for repairing of streets for the year 1918.
