HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-25-1918 Office of the Board of Public Works, City of Ric hmond, Indiana Monday,March 25,1918 The Board of Public Works of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session at the office of the said Board , Mon- day, March 25th, 1918 at 9 :00 o' clock, A.M. All of the mem- bers of the said Board being present , Messrs. Johnson, Taylor and Peitz. The following proceedings were had to-wit: - The minutes of previous meeting read and were approved. The clerk read a letter from the Studebaker Company in regard to not being able to furnish at once the 500 lbs. of Fibre ordered a few days ago. Mr. Peitz moved that the Clerk write the Joseph F. Lay Co. , Ridgville , Indiana, to find out how soon they could furnish 100 lbs. of the Bamboo Fibre , sec- onded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered. The Clerk presented the Contract and Bond of D. 0. Hodgin for a Gasoline Dispenser at 301 National Avenue. The Board ap- proved and signed this contract and bond . Mr. Fred Hackman of the Hackman-Klefoth Company appeared be- fore the Board in regard to putting an additi onal switch track on North F Street . Mr. Hackman was instucted to take up this matter in the regular way and do this according to law. Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of the bad conditi on of the 1st alley south of Main Street at South 9th Street , stating there was a big hole in the gutter. Mr. Johnson moved tht this be referred to the City Engineer and the Street Commission- er for investigation, seconded by Mr. Peitz, so ordered.- Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of the bad condition of the roadway at the Glen Park where the railroad company bought for widening the tracks o caused from the water running down on the road. Mr. Johnson moved tht the City Engineer and the City Attorney take this up and investigate the matter, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered. Mr. Johnson stated that the ?treed Department hauled gravel out of LTlen Park when the road is soft . The street commis- sioner was instucted not to haul gravelfrom the Glen Park, ex- - cept for the roadways at the Park. Mr. Johnson moved that Mr. Peitz get bids for insurance on City Property from different insurance agents of the city and pre- sent them at the next Board. Meeting, seconded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered. Mr. Johnson asked Mr. Miller in regard to Gasoline Tanks in Patrol Department . Mr. Johnson moved that the se tanks be emptied and put in general tank of the fir e department to b e drawn out and charged back to rolice Department , seconded by Mr. Peitz, so ordered. 147onday ,, March 25, 1918. Mr. Dillon brought up tle matter of money needed for repairs at Light Plant , stating that 41800.00 of the appropriation was spent by the last administration which only leaves 01200.00 for the present administration and that there were many repairs to be made. TheBoard instructed the L ity Con- troller to recommend to Council an appropriation of $2500.00 at the next Council meeting . Mr. -Onion brought up the question of filling the old well at Light Plant . The Board instructed Mr. Dillon to fill this well up. Mr.Dillon asked in regard to charging rent for the Old Boiler Room at the Old Light jlant and the Board instructed Mr. Dil- lon they would take this matter up later. The matter of Mr. Smith , contractor of Main Street Bridge, of closing the. roadway north of the bridge was referred to -the City Attorney and the City Engineer for investigation. Mr. Miller stated that a new water heater was needed in the Bath Room at the Number 1 hose House . The Board instructed Mr. Miller to get estimates on Water' neater and flange Boiler and present to the Board. The Board received bids for the improvement of alley between North 15th and 16th street from North "A" Street to North "B" Street by constructing a cement roadway under improvement resolution, #544-1918 , as follows, to-wit : Daniel G. Burkhardt , bid : Cement Roadway complete--- $0.17 per sq. ft . Sewer Connections to lot line 0.64 per linear foot . No other bids being received and Mr. Burkhardt ' s bid. being within the estimate of the City Civil Engineer , Mr. Peitz moved. the contract be awarded to Mr. Burkhardt , seconded. by Mr. Taylor , so ordered . Mr. Davis presented a letter from the Turbine Sewer Machine Co. , Milwaukee, Wisconsin in regard to demonstrating Sewer Cleaner. Mr. Johnson moved. that the city Engineer be in- structed to notify this company to demonstrate this machine, seconded by 1,1r. Taylor , so ordered . Mr. Butler appeared before the Board in regard to bad condition of Toilet at the Market uouse. The Board instructed Mr. Butler they would look into this matter . The Board then adjourned.
