The Board of Public Works of the city of Richmond , Indiana, met in special session at the office of the said Board , Tuesday, March 5 , 1918 at 1 :45 P.M. The following members of said Board being oresent -•-essrs . Johnson, Peitz and Mayor 67.4 .Zimmerman, ex-officio member; Absent , r. Taylor . The . following proceedings were had to-wit : - Mr. Feltz moved that the order of sending the Street Flusher to the Factory at South Bend. , Indiana be rescinded and that the Plusher be turned over. to Lew Harris to be rut in condition, seconded .by Mr. Zimmerman, ex-officio member , so ordered. M. A .l of the members of laid Board being present , Messrs . Johnson, Taylor and Pelt. . The following rrcc eedings were had to-wit ; - The minutes of r..revi ous meeting read and were approved. The Clerk read a lett-r from Mr. D. O . HodP•in, 301 Mati oral Avenue asking for permissi. on to place a five barrel Gasoline Tank in front of 301 National avenue . Mr. Peitz movedr tiff t this rermissi.on be grant ed and that Mr. Hodgin take the usual course aid present bond. and contract for ratificati on by the Board , for installing this tank, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered . The 61erk presented a petition for a cement roadway in the alley between South 21st Street and South 22d Street from South. A Street , south about 145.45 feet , signed by five own- ers of property abutting on this alley. The City .Sngineer presented Improvement Resolution no. 547-1918 for the im- provement of the alley between South 21st street and South • '1 .w • `A Thursday, Iaiarch 7 , 1D 18 22d Street by constructing a cement roadway in said alley of full width thereof from South "A" Street , south to the north • lire of tract 537 , official map of ilichmor . , Indiana . The Board unanimously adopted said resolution. The Clerk read letters from various tire dealers of the city, who submitted prices on tires for the cars of the various city departments . The Board investigated these .various es and decided to give the business to Wm. F. Lee. Mr. Davis presented petition of Vim. IvMeerhoff asking permission to run the roof water from K. of P. Temple into the Sewer in the alley between South 8th Street arid. South 9th Street , between main and South "A" street . The Board refused this permit owing to the size of the sewer. Tailor brought up the matter of removing a telephone pole on the property of Ivir. Thompson, 12 north 12th Street, • stating this pole was broken off. This was-referred to Superintendent of 3-i.ght Plant . Mr . Johnson brought up the question of granting permission to Lir. Isom Elleman for garden space on iaorth West Sixth Street on Peacohk addition :.here the road was not made . The Board granted this privilege to Mr . Elleman. Mr. Dillon brought up the matter recommended to him by Mr. wchwei zer, Councilman, of placing a light on the north side of the Viaduct on Sheridan Street stating it was dangerous to people passing this place at night . It was moved by Mr. Peitz and seconded by. Ivir . Taylor that this nutter be left to • Mr. Lillon to investigate this and place a light where it is best needed. Mr. John Healy appeared before the Board in regard to Fire Insurance on City Property . There was no action taken on this nutter. • The Clerk presented a petition signed by members of the Fire Department for an increase in wages of twelve and one"half (120) per cent . The Board ordered this rresented to council . The Board received bids for rushed ::,tone to be furnished the. City of .idichmond, Indiana for the season of 1918, as follows : • The Greenville Gravel Co . Greenville, Ohio , bid : Crushed Stone, F.O.B. nichmond , Ind . --- 31 .12 Der ton • The A. & C . Stone & Lime Co. , iddgeville, Indiana bid : 'Crushed Stone , F.O.B . ilichmond , Indi. ---y1.1O per ton The Reinheimer Quarries Co . , New Paris , Ohio bid : Crushed Stone, i . O.B. i,ichmord , Ind. ---0..10 per ton. • On motion of Lir. Feltz ad seconded by Mr. Taylor , the contract was awarded to the iein_heimer Quarries Company, l ew Paris ,Ohio . • 29 Thursday, March .7 , 1918 Mr. Johnson brought up the matter of having the Street Depart- ment under the supervision of the City Engineer. Mr. Pelt moved that the City .engineer. and Street Commissioner work to- .-ether and Street Commissioner get his instructions from the City engineer , second ed by Mr. 'Taylor, so ordered. Mr. K. iaMcILinney tendered his resignati on as a member of the fire Department. Mr. Taylor moved tha t P. K. s res- ignation as a member of the fire liepartmentbe accepted , seconded by Mr. Peitz , so ordered. The Board appointed Wm. Coehner; who had been working without an appointment to succeed hi.=self, Chas . Brown to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. McLinney:R-s resignation, and Elmer Long- streth to take Wm. Pi-p?•eri' s r•lace as an extra man. All other members of the Fire Lepartment who /handed in their resignations were reappointed by the Board. Claims for the amount of 5,118 .09 were allowed and ordered paid. The Board approved vari ous pay rolls up, to and including February 28 , 1918 . The Clerk read letters in regard to cancelling the advertise- merit s for bids for new Road Oiler, from the Studebaker Co. and the Austin Western Road Machinery Co. , The Board ordered these placed on file.
