The Board of Publ is Works of the City of Id chmond , Indiana
met in regular sessi on at the of fi ce of the said Board , Thurs-
.
day, February 21, 1918 , at 9 :00 o ' clock, A.M. All of the iem-
bers of said Board being present , Messrs. Johnson, Taylor .and
II Feltz . The following proceedings were had to-wit : -
The minutes of the previous meeting read and upon moti on of
Er. Taylor were approved.
The Board signed bond and contract granting Sam Jaffe permis-
sion to ccnstluct Platform Son es on the east side of north
3d street in front of his place of bu siness , thirty five ( 35 )
feet from main street.
• A. Petition was present ed for improvement for the north side of
• south B street by constructing cement sidewalk, curb and;gut-
ter, from east Side of tract #511, Official Map, to South 21st
street . The City engineer presented Improvement Resolution
no. 546 -1918 for the improvement of the north side of south
"B" street by cconstructing a cement sidewalk six feet wide from
• the east terminal of the present cement walk from the north side
of said. South "B" street at the east side of Tract #511", Official
Map, tc :south 21st street . The Board unamimou sly adopt ed said
resolution.
A quotation was read. on Fibre for Street Sweeper from the Joseph
Lay Co . , Ridgeville, Indiana . This was taken under advisement
and left open for investigation.
The L%ler k at the Board Meeting on Monday, February 18 , 1918 was
instructed to look up ordinance in regard to hauling of ashes
and pre sent at the next meeting. The Clerk , therefore presented
Ordinance no . 343-1913, .aeccrd. "iJ" page 300, entitled "Garbage. "
The Board allowed that after hauling one load of Ashes a week
by the city, the balance should be charged to the occupant . .
• After some discussion theBoard referred this matter to the
city Attorney.
Bids were read from Henry Holzapfel and Sam Jaffe for the Old
• Boiler at pit _in Glen Miller tlreenhouse. Mr. iolzarofel biddi ng
c25.00 an, Mr . Jaffe bidding 13. 5O.. It was moved by Mr. Peltz
that the bid of Henry Holzapfel be accepted, seconded by Mr.
Taylor; co ordered .
i The Board ordered the clerk to notify Mr.Holzapfel that his bid
ilwas accepted .
Mr. Mill er handed in the resignation of Mr. Bell with tie ex-
• planation that he had suspended Mr. Bell for swearing . ' The
Board asked Mr . Bell if he had anythi r - to say in regard to
this matter and after hearing his explanation Mr . Feltz moved

• that Mr. hells resignation be, accepted and Mr. Harry Aiken be
appoi -nted to fi 11 thi. s vacancy caused by sai .d resignation to
take effect February 22d, seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered .
1 20 Thursday, February 21 , 1918 •
The condition of the street flusher was dis cussed by the
Board. Mr. Johnson sug•gested that an inve sti gati on be
made as to whether it would be better to send this to
the factory by fre i;.ht or to send i t up on motor truck.
After talking this matter over with the City- Attorney, Mr.
Peitz moved that the Studebaker Co . repaint , rut in new
pump, exchange al 1 worn parts, put in new four cylinder
motor in place of two cylinder motor on the Street 1'lushe r
for 0650. 008 the freight to be paid one vvay by this city.
Seconded by Taylor , so ordered.
Mr . Sittloh reported that Crushed ;,tone was needed for the •
Street --epartme nt and on motion by 1.ir .. Peltz the clerk was
ordered to advertise for bids on Brushed Stone for the .
season of 1918 .

The Board ordered the Clerk to notify the health officer,
Dr. Geo. L . Hunt and sanitary inspector , �� .4'. Kee � upon
advice of city Attorney 'i- obbins that the city was not -legal- •
-
ly liable for the groc ery bills furnished re opl e quarantined
and that they wouldn' t allow bills of this kind.

The Bcard arrroved and allowed various pay rolls up to and
including February 15, 1918 .
Claims for the amount of 0'3, 742 .05 were allowed and ordered
paid.
The Board then adjourned. •
