HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-11-1918 12 Office of the Board of Public `works City of -~ichmond, Indiana Monday February 11 , 1918 . • The Board of Public Works bf the City of =Achmond, Indiana met in regular session at the office of said board, Monday February 11 , 1918 at 9 :00 o' clock A. L. All the members of said Board being present . Messrs . Johnson, Taylor and Peitz . I/ The following proceedings were had to-wit : The minuets of the previous meeting approved without reading. Moved by jV1r .. Feltz , seconded by Mr . Taylor that Allen Kerns , `15 Bridge Avenue ,be given the right and pri velege to farm the ground belonging to city, just• west of bridge over east' fork of river and on south side of Bridge Avenue , for the season of 1918 . So ordered. The Board unamiously adopted improvement resolution =545-1918, for the construction of a cement roadway in alleys between South 2nd, and 3d . streets from South A. street north to the first alley South of Main street , thence east to South 3d. street , and west to south 2nd . street . Mr . Peitz moved that all visitors be required to secure a pass from the Superintendent of Light Plant before being allowed to insect Light Plant . Seconded by Mr. Taylor , so ordered . - _r . Peitz moved that the request , made by The Council of De- fence that more lights be placed around the Light Plant , be left to the Superintendent as to the number required. Seconded by Mt. Taylor , so ordered. His Honor, the Mayor, suggested the cutting out of the elect,,.ic sign_ on the City Light Plant , both day and night . Mr. Feltz moved that the Superintendent be ordered not to ill- uminate said sign be night and to cover i.t by day. Seconded by Mr . Taylor, so orS dered . The Street Ccmmi.ssi.oner , Mr . sittloh, brought up the question of buying a new dump wagon and instructing the Board that Mr. Tom Girdy spoke to him, stating that he would secure a dump wagon if the Street Commissioner would pay him the same price per hour as was being paid to teamsters. The Board ordered Mr. Sittloh to. hire Mr. Girdy under those conditions . because of the high cost of feed , the Board ordered the wages of all teamsters hauling trash and garbage for City, be raised five cents ( 5') per hour. Also that trash haulers would be ex- pected to haul eight loads in nine hours . (Cont ' d on next rage ) 1 13 rironday r'ebruary 11 , 1918 . Mr . Hollarn brought up the question of re-building the Green- . house at Glen Miller Park, and after a general d.i sscussion it • was decided that it could be re-build cheaper by day work. The Board decided to take this up with the City i�ttorney and if legal, the Greenhouse would be re-build by day work. IIMr. Hollarn stated that the old boiler would not last another year and he suggested that a new boiler be installed , keening the old one as an emergency boiler . Mr. Davis , City Engineer , was instructed to get ur specification for heating system at Greenhouse. • On motion by Lir. Peitz and seconded by _Mr. Taylor the Clerk • was ordered to advertise for bids , according to specifications, furnished by Engineer , fcr boiler and heating plant at Green- house at Glen Miller Park. So ordered. Motion By Mr . Feltz and seconded by Mr. Taylor that the Park Fundbe used in repairing and rebuilding the Greenhouse at Glen Miller Park. So ordered . The Board instructed the Cit ;= Controller to ask for an approrri- ation of rs5 ,000.00 for the re-construction of Greenhouse at Glen Miller Park. . • . . Mr. Taylor moved that the Board of lublic V;orks offer their thanks to all the Citizens for their offer of assistance in restoring lost flowers in the recent fire and loss of Green- house at Glen filler Park. .seconded by Mr. Peltz ; so ordered. Mr . Seidel offered the site of the north and east of , l2th. street bri,lge , as a dumping ground for ashes. The Board sc in- structed the Street Commissioner. The Board discussed the adviseability of taking out insurance on the Light Plant and other property owned by the City, that was not already insured. The Board ordered Mr . Pin nick to get estimates, for the material needed to repair the Greenhoyse at Glen Park, from Miller - vemrer Company and the Richmond Lumber Company. Mr. Davis was asked by the Board to give an account of his trip to Anderson, Indiana, in re ands to conveyors for the conveyinn' of coal at Light Plant . Mr. Davis stated that he could get further advise as there were other Engineers com ing to look over the situation. 1 1 I oncray. February 11 , 1918 . Mr. la:ylor moved that the Board buy a car load of coal from Mr . smith , and divide , as needed, among the different Hose Houses . Seconded by Mr. Peltz , so ordered. The Board then adjourned. The Board of Public Works of the City of hichmond, Indiana, met in regular session at the office of the said Board , Thurs- day February 14, 1918 , at 9 :00 o ' clock A. 2.1• All the members of said Board being present . Messrs. Johnson, Taylor and Feltz . The following proceedings were had to-wit : The minuets of the previous meeting read and on motion of ';Ir. Taylor were approved. The Clerk presented a letter from the hichmond Water Works Company, in regards to City Flush Tank with galvanized service , stating that the City would probably want to exchange , and replace v;ith lead service . This matter was refered to the City Engineer. His Honor, ;?. W. Zimmerman made a few remarks in regards to the furnishing of lint to the"'Home Military Guards . " Mr. Taylor moved that the City furnish light for the"Home Military Guards" and that the Captain of such Guards take ac the matter, as to how many and location of lights, with the superintendent of Light Plant . Seconded by i,Mr. Feltz , so ordered. The Board was ask to investigate as to the hedge around the tool-house , located on the west side of the river. (cont ' d. on next page )
