City of 'Richmond, Indiana.
Thursday January 31 , 1918 .
The Board of L'ublic Works of the City of Richmond , Indiana ,
met in regular session at the office of the said Board,
Thursday January 31 , 1918 . at 9 :00 o clock A. M. All the
members of said Board being present . Messrs. Johnson, Taylor,
and Peltz . The following proceedings were had to-wit ; '`
The minuets of the previous meeting read on motion of Mr.
Peltz , were approved .
The Clerk presented a petition, signed by H. W. Gilbert and
eight others, for a cement roadway in the alley between north
15th. and 16th. streets , from north A. street to north B.
street . Refered to C; ty engineer.
Mr. Peltz moved that the Clerk advertise for fire hose as
Per specifications furnished by Mr . Miller and ask the Com-
mon Council for appropriation for same. Seconded by Mr. Tay-
lor, so ordered.
Mr. Johnson gave a few statistics on the Light Plants coal
situation, stating that on January 29 , 1918 , there were on
track 4 cars , in transit 8 cars , in stock 5 cars , 18 cars
purchased From one . company and from the Middland Coal Com-
pany 2 cars of nut arid pea every week and two cars of Mine
-"Alin every week up to March 1, 1918 . This making about 76
days fuel supply.
Mr. Johnson brought up the subject of turning off the street
lights in the out lying districts , saying that he thought
the lights should be left lit . Also that the ore mental
lights should be lighted until 12 !O0 o' clock. After some
discussion the Board ordered that the lighting be returned
to its regular system.
The Board reported that the wheel on the street roller could
not be repaired and that they had ordered the Clerk to write
for a new wheel .
Mr. Davis brought forth the discussion of the coal bin at
the Light Plant and gave numereous ways that the coal could
be dumped. He also stated that the bin was built on the Plan
of having cars run over top and dump , but because of the
faulty construction, that manner of dump ' ng would have to
be seen about and left to the railroad company to see if they
would run their cars over i t . After a lengthy discussion
this matter was left tc the Engineer to get up the proper
Plans to Is, adopted later.

• Mr. Davis asked about the platting of the property around
the site of the South G Street bridge . He stated that if
the Board of tVorks , who had the jurisdicti on, did not lay
out or plat said ground , in all probability some of the so
Walled "Land Grabbers" would. He advised the Board to take
action. The Engineer was ordered to get up a plat of his
land and present it' at next Board meeting.
Mr. i-avis reported that the City Engineer' s automobile was
in a very bad share , and stated that it would probable cost
75.00 to place it in working order.
Mr . Feltz moved that this automobile be looked over by the
City Engineer and Chief of Fire Le~artment and for them to
use their judgement; as to placing it in good running order.
Seconded by Taylor , so ordered.
Mr. Johnson brought up the cuestion of dumping good dirt ,
not rubbish, on the ground north off the west end. of the Doran
Bridge .
On motion by Br. Feltz arid second b;r Mr Taylor the City En-
gineer with ' therStreet Commissioner was instructed to extend
drain pipe on said ,around before dumping any dirt upon it .

Mt. Hollarn advised the Board not to take any more gravel
from he gravel bank in Glen Park than was necessary to fix
the roads that ran through, the park. As the hauling cuts up
the road.
The Board advised ?._r. Holism to pet some cuick growing vines
to slant on this bank , so as to make it more sightly. •
Mr . fleinkriecht stated that he had purchased from the PovJers
Coal Company, 90 cars of coal , shipments not to exceed 5 cars
per week.
On sugestion of His •Honor. , 'N. W. Zimmerman, that two lights
be placed at the sr ill-way at Bortons Lake and also lights be
placed at the play grounds in Glen Park. On motion of
Mr . Feltz and second by Mr . Taylor said lights v. ere ordered
rlaced .
