The Board of Public Works of the City of Riehmond, Indiana, met ih regular session at the office of said Board, Thursday January 10th. 1918 . at 9 o' clock A. M. All the members of said Board being present , Messrs.Johnsoh, Taylor and Feltz. The following proceedings were had, to-wit : - The minutes of previous meeting were read,and on motion of Mr. Peltz , were approved. • The Board reviewed claim: bills against the City for the amount of 7146 .81 Pursuant to a letter in regard to former agtion taken by the former Board of Public Works , In regard to the 29 inter- . mediate fire hydrants. The Public Service Commissions appraisal of these 29 intermediate hydrants being1370.00 Mr. Peitz moved that 1370.00 be deducted from the nichmond, City Water Works , bill of 44688. 75 seconded by Mr. Taylor,motion prevailed. The Board allowed bills to the amount of 5681.l3. The Board reappointed Mr. Frank Carter, as Assistant Fire Chief. Upon the suggestion of the Mayor. That as the Chief of the Fire • Force had headquarters at the No.2 hose house , he thought it would be a good plan to have the assistant Chief to have his headquarters at the No.1 hose house,and to transfer Mr. Brusher from No.5 to No.1 hose house , and Mr. Sin_ex.' from No.1 to No.5 hose house. . On motion of Mr. Feltz that the: above :changes . be.,made in -the Fire Force , and seconded by Mr. Taylor,so ordered,and referred to the Fire Chief. The Mayor suggested that the exhaust steam from the M. E. L.& P. F might be available for the heating of the City Building, The Board decided to investigate , and get estimates on the possible cost , and compare them with the cost of heating the City Building with the present system. Mr. Johnson said his attention had been called , in regard to fire service east of the City, The Board decided that as it vas outside of the corporation they had no jurisdition, Mr. Miller the Fire Chief stated that at the fire of the Garage east of the Cit.y,that it was to far from the fire plug to reach with the amount of hose they carried on the wagon„which was about 800 feet . The Mayor suggested that if the people out there wanted fire prom tection, for them to get enough hose in connection with the 800 feet they carry on the wagons, and put it in a small shed close to the hydrant , so the firemen gould get it in case of a fire , and the City would try and take care of them as long as it did'nt interfere with the fire protection of the City. Mr. Peltz moved that the Fire Chief be instructed to fill the Gasoline tanks at the different hose houses with White ;Rose Gas- o1i ()line , seconded by Mr. Taylor, so ordered. Mr. Pinni:ek the building Inspector called the Boards atten- tion, in regard to supplies, Mr. Johnson said that he wanted to looktup his contract in regard to prices before ordering any supplies , as he thought he could get them cheaper. Mr. Taylor stated that some parties on south 13th. street wanted the right to run a wire across the street from No.217 to No.220. The Board referred this matter to the _Fire Chief. I/ The Clerk cabled the Boards attention to the Gas question that was referred to them at the last session of the Common Council. In which Mr. VonPein spoke of the upkeep of the artificial gas plant , and referred to the Board of Public Works, . On motion of I;Ir. Peltz the Board referredtthis matter to the City Attorney. The Board ordered the Clerk to get some stationary for the Board . Mr. Gath, Freeman appeared before the Board , in regard to the .- claim of Mr. Geo. R. Strayer for guarding the county prisoner at the .Retention Hospital.As there is a legal point envolved in this claim. .On motion was referred to the City Attorney. resolution by the Board to sell the Fire Company. horses that are now at the Glen Park. On motion of Mr. Peitz Mr. Taylor was instructed to look after the selling of these horses. Mr. Miller suggested that when possible for a man from the Water Works Company to attend the fires when they called for direct pressdre ,So he could be notified to cut down'at the pressure box, and relieve the flush tanks ect. from this extra pressure .
