The Mayor intormed Council teat some of the property owners had sent
payments to the Chief of Police for loo in after their property and
.that r,he Chief had turned same; over to him for his handling,the Mayor
said he had written some of the insuarnce companies to ascertain what
their requirements were along these lines,but had not heard from them,
The opinion of Council wos that it would be bad precedent to start to
permit members of the Police Deaprtrnent to accept money from outside
sources in payment for work that the Police Department should do as
part of their work - -- if the property vii ifs a to donate same as
a present Council could see ne objection tc that.
The Mayor informed Council t at Mr H. :.Fose, nad been unable to spare
one of his engineers to send to the island to lv ,k over the coo er
plant.
The necessity for repairing the jail was brouget up by Mr Horovitz
who suggested teat since,tn his opinion, the cost to repair the present
building would entail quite an expense it would be a good idea,if
arrangements could be made with the Hotel Company,to get he use of
the old ice -house and make a jail out of that,Mr ,gal .hour was in favor
o t letting the Town nave it, if it was needed.

Town of Tybee,Ga.,January 7th 927.
The regular meeting of Council was held to-day at 4.00 p.m. and was
attended by Mayor Gamble and Councilmen Cann, Nalthour,Espy,Farr and
Town Attorney McIntyre.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The Mayor informed Council that he had wrt:V.ten Colonel Burt at Hort
Screven expressing the regrets of theTown over the loss of the laundry
at the post,by fire.
The first killing that has occurred on the island in years was committed
on Dec.29th when Flora Jones etabbed to death Ada Mae Jones,using an
oyster knife and severing her jugular vein in the throat,she was given
a preeiminary hearing and turned over to the Superior Court to be tried
for murder.
As a little difficulty was experienced in collecting past due taxes
from Mr. J.F.O'Brien on his property,he contending that is the Town
was indebted to him he would apply the amount of the taxes against
is account and credit the Town, so Mr Walt,hour sug ested having the
0 Town Attorney write Mr O'Brien to the effect t at he cannot hol0 up
payment of his taxes to offset; an indebetedness of the Town,Mr.Cann
suggested allowing him the usual 1^ percent discount if he wtill pay
his taxes at once,and if he dosent pay execution will be issued.
There being no further business Council a,d;journed , bject to the call
of the Mayor.
