Proclaimed at the April 23, 2015 the Tybee Island City Council Meeting:
WHEREAS, for more than a century, the bicycle has been an important part of the lives
of most Americans; and
WHEREAS, today, millions of Americans engage in bicycling because it is a viable and
environmentally-sound form of transportation, an excellent form of fitness and provides
quality family recreation; and
WHEREAS, the education of cyclists and motorists as to the proper and safe operation
of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tybee Island is promoting greater public awareness of the
importance of commuting by bicycle, bicycle operation and bicycle safety education as a
means of reducing reliance on the automobile, reducing vehicle traffic congestion and
promoting a healthier and more connected community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tybee Island and its employees are active participants in the
efforts to reduce motorized traffic and maintaining a healthy lifestyle;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jason Buelterman, Mayor for the City of Tybee Island, do
hereby proclaim May 11 — May 15, 2015 as Bike to Work Week in the City of Tybee
Island to call attention to the importance of bicycles for both recreation and
transportation and I further call upon all residents of the City of Tybee Island to use a
bicycle to commute to work or run errands during that week.
