meeting.
WHEREAS, for more than a century, the bicycle has been an important part of the
lives of most Americans; and
WHEREAS, today, millions of Americans engage in bicycling because it is a viable
and environmentally-sound form of transportation, an excellent form of fitness
and provides quality family recreation; and
WHEREAS, the education of cyclist and motorists as to the proper and safe
operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Tybee Island is promoting greater public awareness of the
importance of commuting by bicycle, bicycle operation and bicycle safety
education as a means of reducing reliance on the automobile, reducing vehicle
traffic congestion and promoting a healthier and more connected community;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Tybee Island and its employees are active participants in
the efforts to reduce motorized traffic and maintaining a healthy lifestyle;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jason Buelterman, Mayor of the City of Tybee Island, do
hereby proclaim the month of May in the year 2015 as National Bike Month to
order to call attention to the importance of bicycle for both recreation and
transportation and to show the City of Tybee Island's support of bicycling efforts
throughout our community.
