ARPA grant applications now being accepted
BARNSTABLE — Barnstable County officials have opened an application
portal for Cape Cod organizations to submit a letter of intent to apply for
$5 million in small- and medium-sized grants through the American
Rescue Plan Act.
The online application portal is: https://www.capecod.gov/barnstable-
county-federal-american-rescue-plan-act-arpa/. The deadline for letter
submissions is Sept. 30.
The $5 million grant program is available to non -county local government
units, nonprofits, and private or for-profit organizations. The grants will
support the region's economic recovery from COVID-19. Small grants
range from $100,000 to $250,000, and larger grants from $250,000 to
$500,000.
Non-profit and for-profit organizations can apply for the funds. Cape Cod
towns and related sub -units such as school and water districts, town
departments and councils on aging are also eligible for funds. The
program encourages inter -agency, inter -town, Cape -regional and public -
private partnerships.
Funding priorities for this round of grants include public health system
costs associated with the pandemic response, and negative economic
impacts of COVID on businesses, households, non -profits and
disproportionately impacted communities.
Funds for sewer, water and broadband infrastructure will be considered if
the projects fall under $500,000. Future rounds of grant applications will
be targeted for these larger projects.
Projects will be selected based on several criteria laid out on the website.
They include: projects that benefit the region, leverage additional funding
sources, are measurable and sustainable, and address cross -cutting
issues.
Nonprofits that have already received ARPA funds through the state can
apply for ARPA funds through the county if the funds are intended for
different projects. This round of ARPA funds cannot be used to provide
additional compensation to essential workers.
Expenditures under the grants are limited to the geographic area of
Barnstable County.
