HomeMy Public PortalAbout2023-02-28 Item 1aThe City of Millbrae, California PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, International Women's Day is celebrated globally each year on March 8th, where it is a time to reflect upon the accomplishments of women and to celebrate their continual contributions to our society; and WHEREAS, the theme for 2023 International Women's Day is embracing equity. Women have been fighting for nonpartisan representation in all forms of intersectionality, especially in everyday occurrences in their respective communities; and WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae honors the historical importance of women who have trailblazed history by the renaming of a street and commissioning an art after the late Harriet Tubman; and WHEREAS, Many women have been a critical element in shaping our country and community on all levels, continually pushing the boundaries in the communities they live in and serve; and WHEREAS, our country has been refined by the contributions of women, however they still face unique and incessant challenges, with unequitable disparities undermining women's potential; and WHEREAS, even with, and often despite these persistent hurdles, women continue to pilot their communities every day, playing an important role in preserving the livelihood and culture of all people; and WHEREAS, International Women's Day illustrates the impact and developments women have made towards furthering opportunities in our society and offers an opportunity to continue to push for the rights of women and girls across the nation and the world.
