A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING THE RELEASE OF THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP)
SEEKING .BIDS NOT TO EXCEED 115 CELLULAR PHONES AND DATA SERVICES
FOR 30 DEVICES
WHEREAS, the City has a total of 115 cellular phones of which 18 devices have
data services; and
WHEREAS, staff selected Sprint Wireless as the City's service provider through
the bid process in 2011 because of the high quality two -way radio service, good
coverage, and competitive pricing; and
WHEREAS, equipment issued to staff is aging and needs replacement and
cellular coverage in certain areas of the City are problematic; and
'WHEREAS, the objective of this item is to issue a RFP to ensure that the City
gets high quality cellular service, consolidate all cell phone and data services to one
provider, issue new equipment to staff, and minimize costs; and
WHEREAS, the included RFP is a draft subject to change once the internal
analysis has been completed and will be sent to the four major service providers in our
area: AT &T, T- Mobile, Sprint Wireless, and Verizon; and
WHEREAS, the City is also requesting a management solution to configure
phone settings using software or a web interface to prevent abuse of plans by going
over their allotted minutes, sending too many text messages, and going over their
available limits; and
WHEREAS, funding for cellular and data services for FY 2014 -15 has been
budgeted in the amount of $40,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Lynwood approves and
authorizes the release of the request for proposal for cellular phone and wireless data
services.
Section 2. That all departments shall review their current cellular phone and
wireless data needs to be included in the RFP.
Section 3. This Resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption.
