HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-04-1975 PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE RICHMOND POWER & LIGHT PLANT, AUGUST 4, 1975 1 The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular 2 session August 4, 1975 at the hour of 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers 3 in the Municipal Building in said City serving as a committee in 4 charge of the operation of the Richmond Power & Light Plant. Mr. 5 Brown presided with the following members present: Messrs. Cornett, 6 Elstro, Geier, Hilton, Marino, Merchanthouse, Mills and Williams. 7 8 Absent: None. The following business was had to-wit: 9 Mr. Geier moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting with 10 the correction on line 25 to read, "Mr. Mills requested street lights 11 on Campbell Avenue and Mr. Marino requested street lights on South 12 3rd and 4th Streets, seconded by Mr. Williams and on unanimous voice 13 vote the motion was carried. 14 15 Mr. Marino moved to approve the following bills, seconded by Mr. 16 Mills and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 17 18 APPROVE THE FOLLOWING: 19 Bills in the amount of $299,374.76 20 Interest Coupons 5,002.50 21 1 Payroll 67,030.30 22 23 Mr. Mills congratulated the R.P.&L. Soft Ball team on their good 24 season. 25 26 Mr. Huffman gave a progress report on the Federal Power Commission 27 action whereby Richmond Power and Light is paying Indiana & Michigan 28 Electric Co. 27.52 per cent more for power. Part of that could be 29 refundabl.e if the full amount is not allowed following any hearing; 30 however, "we are still a long way form the contract we need and 31 32 want" , he stated. 33 He stated that the local utility is not paying the 100 per cent 34 peak power rate but is paying the 60 per cent ruled by the Indiana 35 regulatory body in an earlier decision. 36 37 Mr. Huffman said the Indiana Public Service Commission has not acted 38 on the local utility's pending 15 per cent rate increase. The 39 public hearing was held in March and no opposition was heard. 40 41 Mr. Huffman commented on American Motors buying Huffman Mfg. Co. 42 stating that one of the things they asked about when deciding on 43 this community was, do they have adequate power. "We told American 44 Motors that we do have ample power and I feel this was influential in 45 their decision to locate here in Richmond" , he said. 46 47 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and 48 passed, the meeting was adjourned. 49 50 51 John Brown 52 Chairman 53 54 55 ATTEST: Margaret Mellen 56 City Clerk
