Irving Huffman, General Manager, reported on the fuel situation,
saying about a year ago just after the energy crisis there was a big
push to get people to use coal ; therefore, the demand went up causing
the cost to us to triple.

Now the demand for coal has dropped and a lot of companies are burn-
ing off the extra supply.

We have purchased some distress coal (left on cars not sold) for as
low as $11 .00 per ton. You have to watch what quality coal you get
from the small owner.

We can see the possibility of coal cost leveling off; however,
increased freight rates can be expected. The fuel clause is directly
reflected by the cost of coal and the freight rates.

We have presented our data on the 15 per cent rate increase and we
should be hearing something with the next 30 days.

Mr. Huffman said we fare very well in rate comparison with other
companies.

There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and
passed, the meeting was adjourned.
