RESOLUTION NO. 24-028
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE INTERIM CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO REQUEST A
TRAFFIC ENGINEERING STUDY FROM MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY TO PLACE "NO PARKING" AND "DO NOT ENTER"
SIGNAGE IN VARIOUS PROPOSED RESTRICTED AREAS
WITHIN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka ("City") continues to experience a
deficiency in parking, especially in residential areas and along 22nd Avenue within
the City; and
WHEREAS, this has resulted in residents and visitors parking in restricted
areas, which poses a potential safety hazard and interrupts the flow of traffic; and
WHEREAS, to combat this issue, the City Commission desires to direct the
Interim City Manager to request a traffic engineering study from the Miami -Dade
County Traffic Section, and submit for evaluation and approval, a list of locations
where "No Parking" and "Do Not Enter" signage is requested within the City; and
WHEREAS, recommended locations for signage includes: Sharazad to
Oriental; NW 22nd Avenue from Wilmington Street to 143rd Street and near Segal
Park; Between Fisherman Street and Ali Baba Ave on NW 37th Avenue (where trucks
park}; the area of 420 Aladdin Street (blocking alleyway}; From the 1100-1300 Block
of Sharazad Blvd. (on the south side of the street}; the 2200-2600 blocks of Ali Baba
Ave. (both sides of the street); 1800 Block of Wilmington Street (open field}; 14300
NW 22 Avenue; Between 139th and 141 Street on NW 20th Court; 1900 NW 139th
Street; 4300 Block of NW 133 Street (Body Shops Parking vehicles on the City Streets
for storage); and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that a sign and post will cost around Sixty Dollars
($60.00) per unit. The number of units will be determined by the County Traffic
Section, in their discretion; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka finds that it is in the
best interest of the City and its residents to direct the Interim City Manager to take the
necessary steps to request a traffic engineering study from Miami -Dade County to place
"No Parking" and "Do Not Enter" signage in various proposed restricted areas of the City.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. RECITALS ADOPTED.
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka hereby directs the Interim City
Manager to take the necessary steps to request a traffic engineering study from
Miami -Dade County to place "No Parking" and "Do Not Enter" signage in various
proposed restricted areas within the City. Further, the City Clerk is hereby
directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Miami -Dade County Traffic
Section with a letter from the Interim City Manager accompanying same.
SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS.
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors, which do not affect the intent of this Resolution may be
authorized by the Interim City Manager, following review by the City Attorney,
without need of public hearing, by filing a corrected copy of same with the City
Clerk.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval
of the Governor or Governor's Designee.

Department.
Staff Summary:
The City continues to experience a deficiency in parking, especially in residential areas and along 22nd
Avenue. This has resulted in residents and visitors parking in restricted areas, which poses a potential safety
hazard and interrupts the flow of traffic. To combat this issue, the Interim City Manager shall submit to the
Miami -Dade County Traffic Section a list of locations where "No Parking" and "Do Not Enter" signage is
requested for evaluation and approval.

Financial Impact: It is estimated that a sign and post will cost around $60 per unit. The number of units will
be determined by the County Traffic Section. The cost of procuring the signs and posts will be charged to the
Roads & Sidewalks Division, Road Materials & Supplies (41-541530) which currently has $16,886 available.
Proposed Action:
Staff recommends the City Commission approves legislation directing the Interim City Manager to take the
necessary steps to request a traffic engineering study from Miami -Dade County to place "No Parking" and
"Do Not Enter" signage in the areas identified in the Staff Summary
