Men in Retirement with Henry
Quinlan, Monday, December 5 at 2 pm
' Thinking about retirement raises three
major questions for men: Why should I
retire? Who am I now? What am I going to do? For
men who do not find new meaningful activities to
replace work, there is the risk of boredom and a
sense of purposelessness that can be stressful and
lead to depression and other health problems.
This presentation focus on the emotional issues in
retirement that we tend to neglect - loneliness,
loss of identity, and boredom. Recent studies have
shown that men with significant accomplishments
in their work have not -so -great retirement lives
unless they can leave their past behind and create
a new purpose. The presentation ends with a guide
for organizing life in the last years with meaning
and purpose.
lu`Zoou "Life Transition Binder"
I Presentation with Sandra Batra,
Tuesday, December 6 at 10 am
This introductory session aims to help
seniors get all their essential life details together in
what Sandra calls a "Life Transition Binder." This
binder contains information from all areas of their
life: personal details, contacts, banking and
investment facts, property information, insurance
details, legacy plans, details on service providers,
doctors, and health information. If there is interest
after the initial presentation, Sandra will conduct
four weekly sessions in January or February to help
seniors create their binders. Sandra will urge
seniors to take control and make their own "Life
Transition Binder" so their loved ones can step in
and assist them if they are incapacitated or need
assistance.
"Building a Retirement Life that has
Meaning and purpose for you" with
Nenry Quinlan, Tuesday, December 6 at 2 pm
This presentation explores unavoidable
non -financial retirement issues. Failing to address
them often prevents seniors from experiencing
meaningful and rewarding senior years. These
retirement issues apply to all seniors working full-
time, part-time, or not working. Ninety-nine
percent of retirement information focuses on
financial matters, and this focus leaves many
unprepared to face the challenges that arise in the
later years. As a result, many are blindsided by the
unexpected emotional turmoil. It begins when
retirees meet the challenge of filling 200 hours a
month previously spent on working and
commuting. The changes touch on their identity,
marriage dynamics, eating and sleeping patterns,
and more. By building your emotional pension, you
will be able to meet the challenges of retirement
and create a life with meaning and purpose.
Zoom program Group, Wednesday, December7at9am
Come to discuss the ideas for educational and
recreational programs to be offered by our Center.
Housing Options For Elders with Dale
Tamburro, Wednesday, December7, at1 pm

alternatives for planning further actions on your
property. We will explore the steps needed if you
want to stay at home and plan to protect your
home from creditors and nursing home potential.
We will look at selling and downsizing ramifications
and alternatives. We will examine the issues of
owning your home, discuss revocable vs.
irrevocable trusts, and check the documents you
need.
December 2022 • WATERTOWN SENIOR NEWS • 617 972 6490 • PAGE 3
Finally, if you decide to stay at home, we will go
over the amount of liquidity you need to stay at
your place, how to minimize unexpected costs in
the future, and how to design one -floor living with
safety measures in place. We will also briefly go
over reverse mortgages, home care, personal care
contractors, asset protection, and management
that will allow you to stay home. Finally, we will
touch upon capital gain implications on selling and
the stepped -up basis on death. Flyers are available

Nybrid Book Club
Wednesday, December 14 at 10 am
We will be discussing The Mistletoe Secret,
by Richard Paul Evans. A blogger who calls herself
LBH writes about her most personal feelings,
especially her overwhelming loneliness. She shows
a brave face to the world, while inside she longs to
know how it would feel if one person cared about
her. Alex Bartlett, who lives in Daytona Beach,
Florida, reads her posts and cares. Nursing his own
broken heart and trust issues, he finds himself
falling for this sensitive, vulnerable woman whose
feelings mirror his own. Following a trail of clues
LBH has inadvertently revealed, he discovers that
she lives in the small town of Midway, Utah. He
goes there just after Thanksgiving, determined to
find LBH. Instead, he finds a woman named Aria, a
waitress at the Mistletoe Diner, who encourages
Alex in his search while serving his pie along with
some much -needed sympathy and companionship.
Alex finally finds his LBH, a woman who is as
beautiful and kind as he imagined she would be.
How can he tell her that he knows her secret?
What's holding him back? Could it be his feelings
for Aria? Upcoming January: The Man in the Gray
Flane/Suit, by Sloan Wilson.

Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging (COA)
A "Look Back" at the year 2022
So many activities are flourishing at the Watertown Senior Center -- Card games of all sorts, exer-
cise classes in person and on zoom, movies, lectures, singing, piano recitals, chair volleyball, Grab-n
-Go lunches, trips and so many other events for you to partake and enjoy.
The Friends of the Watertown COA is thrilled to sponsor some of these activities. The Friends
donated $3,668 towards the exciting five (5) trips offered this summer so the cost of the tickets to
individuals could be reduced. Ask your friends, who may have joined us, about the fun that was
had by all.
Also, we subsidized numerous Grab-n-Go lunches like last Christmas and St. Paddy's Day for
approximately $3,600 this year. Each lunch was enjoyed by between 100 and 150 people.
We now, cover the cost of the Boston Globe -seven days per week, for $82 per week. In addition,
we helped defray the cost of the "new" to the Senior Center piano. Many of you have enjoyed the
concerts with this piano in place.
A number of people enjoy the trips on the small Watertown Senior
Shuttle. We are now covering the admission fees to museums.
We have also purchased a Keurig Coffee Pot with the necessary
supplies. The Keurig should be in place soon or may already be
there for you to enjoy as you read this article.
Thank you all for getting involved and attending the many and varied programs and activities
offered at the Senior Center. The Friends currently have about 75 active members. We are always
striving to broaden our reach. If you have enjoyed the Senior Center please tell your "Friends". We
welcome your support whether it be with ideas, volunteering or donations. We're lucky to have
such an energetic place to stimulate our minds and bodies and hopefully we'll make lots of
"Friends" along the way.
