PLAINFIELD NORTH HIGH SCHOOL ANNEXATION
1. Testin opened the Public Hearing for the 80-acre site at the southeast comer of 248th
and 119th streets to be used for Plainfield North High School. . Six of seven Plainfield
District 202 School Board members were present along with District Superintendent John
Harper.
Scott Anderley with Healy, Snyder and Bender, Architects for the School stated that his
client, the School District has agreed to the four stipulations in the Staff Report of
October 29, 2003. District 202 Superintendent John Harper stated that we have worked
for a very long time with the staff and the plan commission and we have met every
condition the staff and the plan commission have brought forward.
Several residents suggested that the Village Board table action on the third high school
until the school board reverse its position on turning the site of Central Elementary
School into an alternative' high school. Max Sweetman, resident and spokesman for
SaveCentral, an organization that lobbied to keep Central School an elementary facility,
felt that the school board has not done a good job of looking out for the citizens of
Plainfield. Joe Salave had traffic concerns. Jeff Schrock felt it was ironic that it was
suggested by the school board that the Village board stay out of the debate of Central
School, yet here they are tonight asking for your support. Both Plainfield School
Superintendent John Harper and Board President Ron Kazmar stated that postponement
of the annexation would hurt the students and the community. Any delay would
jeopardize the opening of that campus in August of2005. School Board member Michael
Kelly, the lone member who voted against changing the use of Central School, urged the
Viltage Board to vote in favor of the high school project, stating that holding this hostage
because of another Board decision is not the right thing to do.
P. Fay moved to close the Public Hearing and return to the regular meeting. Seconded by
M. Collins. Voice vote. 6 Yes, 0 No. Motion carried.
Hearing was adjourned at 8:10p.m.
