Con tId., for any purpose, such water works shall give notice thereof in writing to tale city civil engineer,which notice shall state defini- tely where such excavation is proposed to be made & the purpose & extent thereof. Section 11. That Section 8 of said ordinance be and the same Is hereby am- ended so as to read as follows. Section 8. No excavation in any of said streets, alleys, lanes, avenues, thoroughfares & public grounds of said city sr�hll be made at one time of greater extent than 2 squares thereof,unleas the consent of said city shall first be obtaii}ed therefor, Section 111, That Section 9 of said ordinance be & the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows. Section 9. Whenever so directed by resolution of said city, said water works shall extend its system of pipes & mains Into any other of the streets, alleys, lanes, avenues, thoroughfares & pub- lic grounds of said city.wherein such pipes & mains may not have been laid, & connect such extended mains & pipes with their system and supply them continuously with water: provided, that no such extension shall be ordered by said city nor shall said water works be required to make any such extension unless there shall have been made & on file with said water works & with said city, at the time of such application for an extension,bona fide applications fox water service by residents or owners of real estate adjoining each continuous & separate 500 feet of such proposed extension whose total annual payment for such water service at the rates lawfully In force shall not be less than *50. for each said. 50J feet of ex- tension, unless the city shall rent from said water works one fire hydrant for each .900 feet of such extension & .hall pay rental for same at the same rate & times as herein provided fcs' fire hydrant rental, & continue such payments so long, as said fire hydrant shall be maintained upon said extenslon, If said water works shall fail to so extend such pipes & mains when required so to do as herein provided, the city shall have the power & right so to do, and the cost thereof may be retained by the city out of any monies that may be due from said city to said water works, together with in- terest on the cost of such extension at the rate of 6 per cent. Per annum from the date of eompletion thereof. Section 1V, That Section 10 of said ordinance Ys and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows.
