Section 18. Said water works shall at all times maintain a oressure in its mains at the corner of ifain & 8th Streets of, not less than 40 pounds nor more than 70 pounds to the square inch, ex- cept as hereinafter -provided* Said water works shall maintain an electric Gong at -its pumping station, connected with the city fire alarm system in such a way that the fire'depertment of said city may notify said water works by an alarm sounded at its pumping station that a pressure in excess of said lressure above stipulated is necessary to extinguish a fire In said city, and said water works shall within ten minutes after such an alarm shall -have been given at said rLmping station, flrnish such additional fire pressure by means of the pmrpang machinery of said water works, as may be re- quired by such fire deplartmAnt, not less than 70 pounds nor exceed- ing 110 pounds to the square inch at any hydrant, an' shall main- tain such pressure continuously during the continuance of any such fire in said city, If, in the opinion of the Chief of•said fire department, it is necessary to designate certain fire alarm boxes as direct pressure boxes, said water works shall, vwhci the first alarm is sounded from such boxes, give and maintain the required fire pressure: provided, that no box shall be designated as a di- rect pressure box "where the static pressure at the hydrant nearest said box exceeds 70 pounds por square inch.
