HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-07-1965 121 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE _ RICHMOND POWER AND LIGHT PLANT. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Richmond Power and Light Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, dune 7, 1965 at the hour of 7:00 o'clock p.m. (est). Councilman Youngflesh presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Backmeyer, Bell, Henn, Hilligoss, Hollings- worth, Marino, Paust and Yount. The following business was had to-wit: Councilman Yount moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by Councilman Marino and on voice vote was carried. Councilman Hollingsworth moved the following claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Councilman Backmeyer and on voice vote was carried. APPROVED THE'FOLLOUING: Bills in the amount of $137,023.31 , 2 Payrolls 83,704.59 Payment of Int. Coupons-1953 Revenue Bonds 150.00 Transferred from Cash Operating Fund to Working Fund Cash 500.00 APPROVED MAY 3, 1965 Accrued interest on exchange of U.S.Treasury Notes of - Depreciation Reserve Fund 1,666.86 APPROVED MAY 17, 1965 Purchased U.S.Treasury Notes and accrued interest from Depreciation Reserve Fund 161,569.20 APPROVED MAY 17, 1965 Purchased U.S.Treasury Bills from Cash Reserve Fund 97,570.50 III Chairman Youngflesh announced that the date of June 15, 1965 at the hour of 7:00 o'clock p.m. (est) had been set for a meeting with representatives of The Indiana- Michigan to discuss a new contract. One representative from the Press and Radio will be invited to attend. All Council members are urged to attend this meeting. Councilman Bell, Chairman of the Employees Relation Committee requested a date for meeting with the R.P.&L. Employees Committee_to discuss wages. The date of June 18, 1965 at the hour of 7:00 o'clock p.m. (est) was set and all members of Council were urged to attend. Mr. Beck 'reported that Mr. E.Longfellow, Personnel Director of the R.P.U. had brought to his attention the condition of No.9 car which is a 4-door Rambler sedan, purchased 4-8-59 and has 44,221 miles. This car was taken to a local Body Shop and the estimate of repair to the body would exceed the value and also the transmission would require $75.00 to make repair. Truck No. 17, a One Ton International "Metro" body truck purchased 10-6-50 with 46,539 miles had been taken to a body shop for estimate of repair. It was estimated that the cost of repair would exceed the value of the truck and also there is an immediate need for a new set of tires that would cost approximately $85.00. Mr. Beck requested permission to receive bids for a neii compact car to replace No. 9 Rambler and also replace Truck No. 17 International. Truck. Councilman Yount moved the General Manager be granted permission to receive bids for the above on the date of June 21, 1965. This motion was seconded by Councilman Paust and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Beck reported that he had received a request from the local Harry Ray Post of IIIthe American Legion, sponsors of the annual 4th of July Fireworks Display, to have the usual power lines connected to the several concessions stands in Glen Miller Park as has been the custom over the past several years. Councilman Marino moved the Light Plant give the usual service to the American Legion Post for the Fire- works Display. Councilman Paust seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Beck stated that the specifications were prepared and sent to prospective bidders for the Williamsburg Substation Transformers. The bids will be received June 21, 1965. Mr. Beck presented the tabulations of bids on materials for 69 KV Line opened May 17, 1965. 132 GROUP I-WOOD POLES R.G.Haley & Co. 29,754.00 Richmond Electric Co. 24,811.70 Westinghouse Electric Supply 24,804.10 General Electric Supply 24,755.90 • Mr. Beck recommended the bid of the General Electric Supply;be accepted. Council man Paust said the difference of the Richmond Electric Company, a local concern being only $55.80 higher that it should be considered. The reason that some of the money spent would be retained in the local community. Councilman Paust moved the bid of the Richmond Electric Company be accepted, seconded by Councilman Bell and on voice vote was carried. GROUP II-WIRE AND CABLE ' General Electric Supply $22,595.57 Richmond Electric Co. 21,667.91 Westinghouse Electric. Supply 21.545.70 Universal Electric Co. (Partial Bid) 21,333.51 Mr. Beck recommended the bid of the Westinghouse Electric Supply. Councilman Henn moved the bid of the Richmond Electric Company which is $122.21 higher than the lowest bid submitted. Councilman Hilligoss seconded thin motion and on voice vote was carried. GROUP 111-69 YV INSULATORS Westinghouse Electric Supply $12,391.27 General Electric Supply 11,582.17 - Cory, Crum & English 11,582.17 Mr. Beck recommended the bid of the Cory, Crum & English for reason that this company it was believed could give better delivery on this item which at the present time is very scarce to obtain. Councilman Yount moved that this board concur in the recommendation of Mr. Beck, seconded by Councilman Hollingsworth and on voice vote was carried. GROUP IV-HARDWARE Richmond Electric Company $ 9,784.50 Westinghouse Electric Supply 9,267.36 General Electric Supply (Bid as submitted $7,613.02) (Bid corrected for typographical error) 9,184.42 Universal Electric Company (Partial Bid) 8,242.18 Mr. Beck recommended the bid of the General Electric Supply as corrected for typo- graphical error. Councilman Hollingsworth moved the board concur in the recommend- ation of the General Manager, seconded by Councilman Yount and on voice vote carried. Councilman Paust, a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, reported that he had been approached by Mr. Carol Porter, owner of the Porter Advertising to have the board reconsider offering for sale the parcel of ground owned by the R.P.U. between old #27 and new #27, which has been brought up for discussion by the previous ,board. This was taken under advisement until the next meeting.
