RESOLUTION OPPOSING NJDOT'S DECISION TO DENY
THE PROPOSED BAN ON COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE
TRAFFIC ON ROOSEVELT AVENUE

WHEREAS, the completion of the signal improvements and intersection widening at
Roosevelt Avenue and Minue Street have mitigated congestion associated with truck
traffic; and
WHEREAS, the Borough submitted a CMV restriction traffic study to the Middlesex
County Office of Engineering which concurred with the findings and provided same to
the NJDOT for review and approval; and
WHEREAS, on May 24, 2018, the NJDOT issued a denial of the proposed CMV
restriction; and
WHEREAS, the implementation of the proposed CMV restriction would mean the
furtherance of the ban implemented for eastbound CMV traffic along Roosevelt Avenue,
as approved by NJDOT in 2003; and
WHEREAS, the Borough seeks to improve pedestrian and motorist safety along
Roosevelt Avenue by directing CMV traffic to a designated bypass route through an
existing industrial zone along Minue Street, Federal Boulevard, and Blair Road; and
WHEREAS, the Borough intends to file a formal appeal on the NJDOT's decision to
deny the proposed commercial motor vehicle ban on the above - mentioned section of
Roosevelt Avenue
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough
of Carteret opposing the NJDOT's denial of the proposed ban on commercial motor
vehicle traffic over four (4) tons, on Roosevelt Avenue (CR602) westbound between
Blair Road and Minue Street.
