HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-16-1960 • 302 • MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL LIGHT PLANT. MAY 16, 1960 Regular session was called to order by Chairman J. Hoskins at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers in City Hall, all members present. The following business was had to-wit: Councilman Johnson moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Councilman Marino, unanimous voice vote. Councilman Johnson, inquired about a bill to the Muncie Tree Corp. for tree trimming service. Mr. Beck explained that contracting for this service at $1.75 per hour was cheaper than having City Employees do the job. Councilman Johnson moved the bills in the amount of $166,337.05 be allowed and paid, seconded by Councilman Smithmeyer, unanimous voice vote. The following transfers from Cash Operating Fund were included in the bills: $36,000.00 To Depreciation Reserve Fund 38,613.10 To Cash Reserve Fund 28,508.42 To Utility Bond Fund Cash Mr. Beck reported the generation for April was off 1.82% and the Peak load was .23% over April of 1959. This date had been set to open sealed bids for a new tractor, rotary cutter and mower, for the use of the Light Plant. The following bids were opened. E.W. Parrish and Sons $3197.92 ( all three) Burg and Brown 3150.00 " " Robinson Bros. 2724.67 " " Bishop Sales 2518.00 Councilman Marino moved to refer the bids to Mr. Beck for study and recommendation, seconded by Councilman Yount, unanimous voice vote. Mr. Beck reported that the Johnson Street Station would be down on weekends, during the summer months, reducing coal costs and with the interconnection contract, there would not be the risk of a shortage. Mr. Beck said the estimate for replacing the stack at the Johnson Street Station that was blown down recently, was approx. $15,000.00, and was partially covered by insurance. The Committee approved the Boy's Club agreement to place a -ems in front of the South 8th street Light Plant Office. Mayor Cutter discussed with the Light Plant Committee a proposal for new Christmas decorations for downtown streets at a cost of approx. $4600.00. The Retail Merchants Association is to be contacted to find out how much they would be willing to spend on the project, and also, to check if funds of the Light Plant can be legally used, in this manner.
