HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-18-1960 300 • MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND,INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. April 18, 1960 • Regular session was called to order by Chairman J. Hoskins at 7:00 PM, in the Council Chambers in City Hall, Councilman Smithmeyer absent, The following business washad to-wit; Councilman Marino moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Councilman Salzarulo, unanimous voice vote. Councilman Johnson, inquired about the bills for the repair of the White- water Valley Station, that are being received now. Mr. Beck explained the bills were being separted into 4 different work orders, so as to place the charges in the right category, (. insurance, outside labor etc.) '; Councilman Yount, ask about the bill for car rental for the meter reader. Mr. Beck explained a car was not available for the meter reader and as a car was not needed the majority of the time, it was cheaper, to rent a car than to buy one. Councilman Johnson moved the bills in the amount of $315,362.22 be allowed and paid, seconded by Councilman Yount, unanimous voice vote. Included in the bills were the following transfers from Cash Operating Fund; - (a) $28,508.42 to Utility Bond Fund Cash (b) 38,175.17 to Cash Reserve Fund (c) 36,000.00 to Depreciation Reserve Fund Mr. Beck reporting on the generation of the light plant for March, said the system demand was 8.9% and the peak load 3.6% over March 1959, and the plant was doing approx. 52 % more business this year than it did for the first three months a year ago. Mr. Beck reported the mercury vapor lights were now in operation from the Salisbury Road to West 18th St. (south side) and said he would like to install the same type of light to first street in the near future. Mr. Beck, said new street lights would be 'installed from 4th to 6th and 10th to 12th street on Main,after the approval to purchase materials is received from the Board of Public Works and Safety. A list of unpaid bills charged to the State for maintenance of traffic lights and past due were turned over to the City Attorney for study, and possible collection. City Attorney Cecere gave his opinion on three matters that were referred to him for study at the April 4, meeting. (a) Recommends a $5000.00 faithful performance bond for Mr. Beck. (b) Recommends the transfer of government bonds from the Continental National Bank and Trust Co. to the local banks. (c) Accumulated funds, due the City and to be paid at a later date, can be invested in short term federal securities. There being no further business, Councilman Marino moved the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Johnson, unanimous voice vote. Chairman - ATTEST: LUW U` . Clerk
