MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
IN SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND,
INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE
OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUUNICIPAL ELECTRIC
LIGHTING AND PG rER PLANT.
MONDAY, JULY 30, 1956.
The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a Committee in
Charge of the Operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in
SPECIAL SESSION in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday,
July 30, 1956, at the hour of 6:00 o'clock P.M. (CST). Councilman Salzarulo presid-
ing with the following membersbbeing present: Messrs. CraT, Eastman, Hoskins. Marino,
III Thomas, Vivian and Waltermann. Councilman Smithmeyer being absent. The following
business was had, to-wit:
Councilman Marino moved that $50,000.00 be transferred from Cash Operating Fund to
Cash Reserve Fund for the 1957 Light Plant Dividend to the City of Richmond. Council-
man Thomas seconded and on voice vote was unanimously carried.
Councilman Thomas moved that 50% of the Net Income of the M.E.L. & P.P. for each
month be set aside as of August 1, 1956 payable to the City of Richmond, January 1,
1958. Seconded by Councilman Crum and on roll call the following vote was recorded:
Ayes. Councilmen Crum, Eastman, Hoskins, .Marino. Salzarulo, Thomas, Vivian and
.,•;' Waltermann. Nays, None. Absent, Councilman Smithmeyer.

Mr. Harries, Consulting Engineer of Black & Veatch, spoke to Council members re-
garding the dust and smoke control at the Whitewater Valley Generating Plant, He
reviewed the progress and development of the Whitewater Valley Generating Plant and
said that this plant rated in the first thirty or forty in the United States for
economy of operations. Mr. Harries recommended the expenditure of approximately
$10,000.00 for the extension of the smoke stack 30 feet. He said that the problem
of fumes from the stack should be corrected by this addition but he would not prom-
ise complete relief from fly ash.
Councilman Marino moved that Mr. Beck go ahead with plans and specifications for
III . a 30 foot addition to the stack. Councilman Crum seconded and on voice vote was
unanimously carried.
There being no further business presented, on motion duly made, seconded and
carried, the meeting adjourned.
