HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-02-1956 192: MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. • MONDAY, APRIL 2, 1956 • The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a Committee in Charge of the Operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, April 2, 1956, at the hour of 6:00 o'clock P.M. (CST). Councilman Salzarulo presiding with the • following members being present: Messrs. Crum, Eastman, Hoskins, Marino, Smithmeyer, Thomas, Vivian and Waltermann. The following business was had, to-wit: • Councilman Smithmeyer moved and Councilman Waltermann seconded that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as published. Councilman Smithmeyer moved and Councilman Salzarulo seconded that the bills be allowed. The meeting was turned over to Mr. Beck. Mr. Beck reported that the generation for March was 7.41% over the same period last year and that the peak load was 39,300 kilowatts or 8.6% over the same period last year. Mr. Beck presented the bids for a new 1956 4-door sedan for the Light Plant Engin-. eering Department to replace the 1947 2-door Plymouth sedan. The following are the net bids received: Dea Meadows Ford Sales, Inc. $1,685.00 • Kurdys Chevrolet, Inc. 1,700.00 Rhoades Auto Sales 1,899.40 • Brown Motor Company 1.590.00 Councilman Marino moved and Councilman Smithmeyer seconded that the bid submitted by the Brown Motor Company in the sum of $1.590.00 be awarded and on voice vote was unanimously carried. • Mr. Beck presented plans for lighting the Whitewater Boulevard.from.North 10th St. to Southwest 1st and National Road. -The plan called-fort the installation of 49 - • lights spaced 150 to 160 feet apart at a cost of $13,000.00. Mr. Beck recommended that a study be made of the traffic on said Boulevard to see if this expenditure is advisable. Councilman Marino moved and Councilman Crum seconded that this light plan be tabled until the completion of the new bridge on North 10th Street. • Mr. Beck reported on the possible use of atomic energy for producing steam for the Fight Plant. He reported he had followed the atomic energy program and recommended that the City of Richmond not go into this program at the present time. Councilman Salzarulo asked Mr. Beck to continue his investigation of atomic energy and make future reports to the committee. Councilman Marino asked if the Light Plant had received an order to install the traffic light at North 10th and "J" Streets. 1°lr. Beck said he had not received the order but would follow up this request and report at the next meeting. Councilman Marino asked that Council members be taken on a tour of the Johnson Street Plant. Mr. Beck said he would arrange a date and notify the Councilmen. Claims in the amount of $217,027.78 were allowed.
