HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-21-1954 1 CI MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA., SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. MONDAY, JUNE 21, 1954. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Light- ing and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers II in the City Hall .in said City, Monday, June 21, 1954, at the hour of 6:00 o' clock P.M. ( CST) . Councilman Tracy presiding with the follow- ing members being present: Messrs. Alkire, Eastman, Kettelforder, Law, Marino, Riggleman, Salzarulo and Youngflesh. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with on motion duly made, seconded and carried. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond 4r Palladium-Item, a local newspaper, on the dates of June 8-15, 1954, ' 4 that sealed bids would be received for: Section I. Power Cable, Section II. Control Cable, for the new Light Plant construction. C�: * The proofs were ordered filed on motion duly made, seconded and carried. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: SEC. All bids were Firm, with the exception of General Cable Corp. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to Mr. Beck and the Engineers for their tabulation and recommendations. Mr. Beck asked consent of this Body to defer action on the bids re- ceived June 7, 1954. Mr. Beck wants to make further investigation with the Indian: State Board of Accounts in regard to the legality of awarding the bid to the Muncie Construction Company which was low . bidder. Council gave their consent. Mr. Beck reported ha had investigated the possibility of investing some of the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash into bonds. The State Board of Accounts suggested that money that will not be used under a period of six months could be invested into Government Bonds. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the City Attorney was ordered to prepare a Resolution to invest the sum not to exceed $200, 000. 00 of the De- preciation Reserve Fund Cash into Serial "J" and "K" Government Bonds. Mr. Beck reported that he had received ,a letter from Mr. Sheffler, Supt. of the Reid Memorial Hospital stating that they would like to have the seven (7) trees that were removed by the Light Plant re- placed with trees that would cost approximately $200. 00 each. Mr. Beck expressed that this was an exorbitant price to pay for trees, and since he has been with the company since 1926 the Light Plant has never paid_ a sum to exceed .fi50. 00 each for any trees to be replaced. Councilman Eastman moved that a price of ?50.00 each be Paid for the seven ( 7) trees that were removed. This motion was lost for a lack of a second. No further action was taken at this time. 142 Council will meet at the next regular meeting Tuesday, July 6, 1954 instead of Monday, July 5, 1954. Claims in the amount of 55, 530. 31' were allowed.
