HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-19-1954 134 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. MONDAY, APRIL 19, 1954. The Common Council of the City of Richmond , Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Light- ing and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, April 19, 1954, at the hour of • 7: 00 o' clock P.M. ( CST) , Councilman Tracy presiding with the follow- ing members being present: - Messrs. Eastman, Law, Kettelforder, Marino, Riggleman, Salzarulo and Youngflesh. Councilman Alkire being absent. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded end carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The Clerk presented the proofs of publication Printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item on the dates of March 31, 1954 and April 7, 1954, that sealed proposals would be received until the hour of 7: 00 o' clock P.M. ( CST) , for furnishing a Switchboard for the new substation to be located on N.W. 5th Street near the Williamsburg Pike. The proofs were ordered filed on motion duly made, seconded and carried. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud : Federal Electric Co. ?23, 052. 00 Kirkhof Electric Co. 20, 430. 00 Clements Electric Co.. 21, 620. 00 General Electric Co, 26, 315. 00 Westinghouse Co. 25, 200. 00 All of the above bids were referred to the General Manager and Con- sulting Engineers for tabulation and recommendations. Mr. Beck submitted the analysis and recommendations of the bids re- ceived April 5, 1954, compiled_ by the Consulting Engineers. Mr. Beck concurred in their recommendations. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the following companies were awarded contracts: Wood Poles-Section T. Graybar Electric Co. 112, 536, 75 Wood Crossarms-Section II, " " " 4, 492.17 Aluminum Conductor-Section III. Richmond. Electric 22, 386.52 Copper & Copperweld Cond.-Sec. III . Graybar Electric Co. 7, 200. 44 Hardware-Section IV. Westinghouse Elect. 16, 467. 73 All of the above bids were firm. Mr, Beck stated that he had received the following proposals for an automobile for the Engineering Department: Brown ^lotor Co. Plymouth 11, 795, 00 Lloyd-Morrison Co. Nash 1, 741. 30 Gilcrest Did Not Quote Dea. Meadows Ford 1, 700. 00 Willoughby Chevrolet 1, 62.5. 00 Rhoades Plymouth 1, 786, 57 Mr. Beck recommended that the Willoughby Chevrolet Company bid in the sum of 11, 625. 00 be accepted, Councilman Eastman moved that this body concur in the recommendation, seconded by Councilman Riggleman a nd on voice vote was carried. Mr. Beck submitted the following proposals for Water Softner at the Light Plant: Dehaven Engineering Co. 12, 912. 00 Dearborn Chemical Co. 3, 079. 40 Permutit Co. ' 3, 918. 00 135 On recommendation of Mr. Deck, Councilman Eastman moved that the pro-- . posal of the Dehaven Co. , be accepted, seconded by Councilman Riggleman and on voice vote was carried. The Chairman reported that he would- like to have the feeling of .this body relative to the :placement of .iron collars around the ornamental light polies in the City. Councilman Youngflesh moved that the place- ment of iron collars around. the ornamental light roles be prohibited; seconded by Councilman Kettelforder and carried. 11 - Councilman Eastman moved that this body meet in regular session at the hour of 6: 00 o' clock P.M. (CST) beginning May 3, 1954, seconded by Councilman Youngflesh and ' on voice vote was carried. The committee allowed the claims in the amount of ? 87, 670. 85.
