HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-02-1953 117 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2. 1953. The Common Council of the CITY OF Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Nlectric ]Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday November 2, 1953, at the hour of 7:00 otclock P.M. (CST) . Councilman Eastman presiding with the following members being present: Messrs Alkire, Baldwin, Kettelforder, Law, Marino, salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh. The following pro- ceedings were had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with/ Mr. Beck presented a drawing and recommendations of the installation of new street lights on South 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd Streets from South "E" Street to South "G" .. Street. The installation would involve 12 new lights at an approximate cost of $170.00 each. On motion made by Councilman Tracy, seconded by Councilman Kettelforder and un- animously carried, the committee approved the installationof the street lighting as outlined by Mr. Beck and referred the same to the Board of Works. Councilman Tracy moved that the General Manager be authorized to invest $600,000.00 of the Depreciation Reserve Fund into government bonds when market price is par and best suited and limitation of year maturity. This motion was seconded by Councilman Alkire and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Beck submitted proposals for furnishing a 2-door sedan for the Line Department from E.H. Gilcrist, Brown Motor Compamy, Rhoads Auto Sales, "D" Meadows, Watson- Brown and Willoughbyts Chevrolet Company. After a thorough study of each bid submitted, Councilman Tracy moved that the proposal of the Rhoads Auto Sales for a 1954 Plymouth be accepted for the net sum of $1,570.00, seconded by Council- man Youngflesh and on voice vote the motion was unanimously carried. Mr. Beck announced that Ralph Bish had been named assistant line Superintendent to Mr. Frank Campbell and will have the use of Mr. Campbellts car. Mr. Campbell will receive thenew car for his use in line of duty. Mr. Beck read a letter from the Reid Memorial Hospital Board asking that the Light Plant replace the trees that were recently removed to provide the right-of- way for the new 13,000 volt line. The trees were removed by permission granted from the hospital board several months ago. This matter was referred to the City Attorney for a report as to the legality of replacing the trees. Claims in the amount of S575,159.45 were allowed. There being no further business presented on motion duly made, secmded and carried, the meeting adjourned. Chalirman Attest: /,. City lerk -
