MINUTES OF THE MEETING 'OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS
A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE
MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT.
MONDAY, . JANUARY 5, 1953. •
The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a
• committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Light •
-
ing and Power Plant of said City, met in regular session in the
Council Chambers in the City Halpin said City, Monday, January 5,
1953, at. the hour of• 8: 00 o' clock P.M. . ( CST) . Councilman Eastman
presiding with the. following members being present: Messrs. Alkire,
Baldwin, Kettelforder, Law, Marino, Salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh.
The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the pre-
vious meeting were dispensed with.
' On motion made by Councilman Tracy, seconded by Councilman Marino
and unanimously. carried, Councilman Alkire was selected to represent
this Body on the Board. of Trustees of .the Reid Memorial Hospital,
Councilman Tracy moved that the sum of $4,000. 00, that was carried
on the Light Plant books for the year 1952 for current donated to
the Reid Memorial Hospital be allowed. This motion was seconded by
Councilman Law and on voice vote was unanimously carried.
Mr. Beck recommended that this Body express at the next meeting what
amount will be donated for current for the Reid .Memorial Hospital
for the year 1953.
Councilman Tracy moved that a separate contract for the purchase of
the Harry Gilbert farm be written to provide that Mr. Gilbert be
given the right to farm the 35 acres on the south side until
December 1, 1953. This motion was seconded by Councilman Baldwin
and on voice vote the motion was carried. Three negative votes were
voiced by Councilmen Law, Marino, and Salzarulo.
This body. authorized Mr. Beck to negotiate with the Chesapeake and
Ohio Railroad. to limit the right of way for a switch track to that
of 50 feet instead of 100 feet as requested by said railroad.
Mr. Beck reported that he had received a communication from the Starr
Piano Company contending that the Light Plant has fenced in a part
of property owned by said Company. The Starr Piano Company is will-
ing to sell this land to the Light -Plant for a sum of- $2,000. 00.
Mr. Beck stated that further investigations would be made before he
would make recommendations.
Mr. Beck asked that each member of this Body make a thorough study
of possibilities of installing sprinkler system in the Store Room
and Plant to reduce the insurance premiums.
The claims . in the sum of a149,055. 49 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made,
seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned.
