HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-01-1952 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT. MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, .1952. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as _a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant of said City, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, December 1, 1952, at the hour of 8:00 o' clock P.M. (CST) . Councilman Eastman presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Alkire, Baldwin, Kettel- f order, Law, Marino, Salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The Clerk Presented proofs of publications printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a, newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana, on November 18 and 25, 1952, that sealed proposals would be received until the hour of 7: 00 o' clock P.M. (CST) on this let ' day of December, 1952, for furnishing 12" Steel Pipe, Re-inforcing Steel, Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Steel for the new plant site. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the proofs were ordered filed. Mr. Beck stated that an Addendum No. 1 had been sent to all prospective bidders on Structural Steel, stating that changes had been made on the date for receiving Structural Steel bids, from December 1, 1952 to that of December 8, 1952, at the hour of 7:00 o' clock P.M. ( CST) . Only bids for 12" Steel Pipe and Re-inforcing Steel would be considered on this date. The following bids were received and read aloud: Re-inforcing Steel: Ceco Steel Products Corp. , Indianapolis, Indiana. 11 $104, 945.00 Adjustment $139.00 per ton. Hugh J. Baker and Co. , Indianapolis, Indiana. . $105, 700.00 'Adjustment ¢140. 00 per ton. 12" Steel Pipe Armco Drainage and Metal Products, So. Bend, Indiana. 5,250 'lineal feet of steel pipe ` 19, 003•43 Crane Company, Indianapolis, Indiana. 5, 250 lineal feet of steel pipe $ 19, 698.00 On motion made by Councilman Tracy, seconded by Councilman Alkire and unanimously carried, the above bids were referred to the General Manager and Consulting Engineers for final tabulation and recommendations to this body. Councilman Marino moved that the recommendations of the Richmond Fire and Casualty Insurance Association be accepted, giving the City 90 per cent Co-insurance instead of the 80 per cent which has been in effect. Councilman Baldwin seconded this motion and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Earl Allen and Mr. W.W. Reller, Trustees of the Reid Memorial Hospital Board, appeared before this Body and made an appeal for addi- tional free current for the hospital for 1953. This was taken under advisement. Councilman Marino moved that the Light Plant Employees be given a Christmas Gift, the sum of Five Dollars ($5.00) , and to exclude the members of Council, Mayor, City Controller, City Clerk, City Attorney and City Engineer. This motion was seconded by Councilman Law and on voice vote was unanimously carried. 83 Mr. Beck reported that the report on the Transmission System as was run on a Calculating Board by the Black and Veatch, Engineers, showed that an additional 10, 000 K.V.A. transformer was needed. Councilman Alkire moved that the General Manager be authorized to increase the order from 2-10, 000 K.V.A. Transformers to that of 3-10,000 K.V.A. Transformers per price quoted in the bid of the Allis-Chalmers Company as was sub- mitted October 20, 1952. This motion was seconded by Councilman Marino and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Councilman Law moved that the wage schedule as presented by the Light IIPlant Employees group be accepted, and to be effective December 1, 1952, the vacation clause to be given further study. This motion was seconded by Councilman Tracy and on voice vote was carried. Claims in the amount of $;7L., 031.50 were allowed.
