HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-02-1952 7 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 _1252. _ The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a commit- te in charge of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Tuesday, September 2, 1952, at the hour of 7: 30 o' clock P.M. (CST) . Councilman Eastman Presiding with the following members be- ing present: Messrs. Alkire, Baldwin, Kettelforder, Marino, Salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh. Councilman Law being absent. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. On recommendation of the General Manager this body unanimously voted to meet in a Special Session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall on September 22, 1952, at the hour of 6:30 o' clock P.M. (CST) , to receive and open bids for new equipment for the new plant as advertised. Councilman Marino moved that the General Manager be authorized to spend out of the Light Plant General Fund the sum not to exceed d 125.00 for entry fees and supplies for two bowling teams to represent the Light Plant for the year 1952-53, and said equipment to be permanent property of the Light Plant. This motion was seconded by Councilman Salzarulo and on voice vote was carried. The committee authorized the General Manager to appear before the Board of Works to discuss his recommendations on what to do with the ornamental light post on South 8th Street, between the Light Office and the Bus Terminal. This post has been hit several times and the repair bill on said Post points out that it needs removing. Mr. Robert Daly and Mr,. William Hays appeared before the committee re- questing the Light Plant to. furnish necessary electrical current for 11 amusement rides, connect electric current to swithc boxes and install Christmas lights for the Fall Festival to be held October 23,24 and 25, 1952. Mr. Beck pointed out that it was not the policy of the Light Plant to furnish current and labor necessary as requested. The Committee authorized Mr. Beck to accompany these two men to the Board of Works to see what action could be secured on thd.se requests. Councilmen Tracy, Baldwin and Kettelforder were appointed as a committee to investigate the request of a street light on North "C" Street, between North 16th and 17th Streets. Mr. Beck presented plans for the installation of an additional net work feeder transformer vault that will be needed in the very near future to supply the North American Insurance Company building (Old Morton Build- ing) . Councilman Tracy moved the General Manager be authorized to pro- ceed with the plans as outlined, seconded by Councilman Salzarulo and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Beck presented two options for lands that are needed for easements for the C & 0 Railroad tracks leading to the Gilbert Farm (New plant site) . Councilman Baldwin moved that the General Manager be authorized to appear before the Board of Works and request acception on said options, seconded by Councilman Tracy and on voice vote was carried. One vote was in the negative and that being Councilman Marino. The committee allowed the claims in the amount of 464, 993. 75.
