HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-07-1952 5.9 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, - INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT MONDAY, APRIL 7, 1952 The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a Committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, April 7, 1952, at the hour of 8:30 . o' clock P.M. Councilman Eastman presiding with the following members IIbeing present: Messrs. Alkire, Baldwin, Kettelforder, Law, Marino, Salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Mr. Beck reported 65 days supply of coal on hand at the plant. Quotations were supplied to each Councilman on a truck chassis and body to replace #4 line truck Model D-50 which was purchased in 1937. Mr. m Beck advised each Councilman to go over the quotations and recommend --i which truck should be purchased by the plant. ,' Mr. Beck read a letter from Mr. J.W. Harries, . Consulting Engineer from the Black and Veatch Company, in regard to the bids submitted, to this Body that were opened March 17, 1952 and submitted to said Company for recommendations. The Black and Veatch Company recommended the purchase of the new steam generating unit as quoted in Item III in the bid of the Riley Stoker Corporation of Worchester, Mass. , in the sum of $992, 764-.00. Councilman Youngflesh moved that the recommendation of the Black and Veatch Co. , Consulting Engineers, be accepted and that this Body authorize the purchase of the new steam generating unit as quoted for Item III by the Riley Stoker Corp. at a price of 992, 764. 00. This IImotion was seconded by Councilman Salzarulo and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Beck gave this Body a report on the test that was run on the American Aggregates for water supply and found that enough water wasn' t available to provide water for a new plant. Mr. Beck proposed a new site for the Generating Station of 120 acres, owned by Mr. Harry Gilbert. The site being just south of "Q" Street and west of the Straightline Pike. A full report was given on the possibilities of this new site saving the City approximately $220,000.00. Councilman Youngflesh took some fine aerial shots of this site; they were projected on a screen and Mr. Beck outlined the advantages of the Gilbert site. Mr. Beck requested permission from this Body to appear before the Board of Works to obtain an option on the Gilbert farm. Councilman Law moved that Mr. Beck be given permission from this Body to appear before the Board of Works to obtain an option on the Gilbert farm, seconded by Councilman Alkire and on voice vote was unanimously carried.
