HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-04-1952 54 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL. ETRCTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1952. The Common -Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Light- ing and Power Plant, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, Monday, February 4, 1952, at the hour of 8: 30 P.M. Councilman Eastman presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Baldwin, Kettleforder, Marino, Salzarulo, Tracy and Youngflesh. Councilman Alkire and Law being absent. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The chairman appointed Councilman Tracy and Law to serve on the Light Plant Pension Committee. Mr. Beck reported that the Plant has 65 days supply of coal on hand. Mr. Beck advised the Committee that March 17, 1952., had been set as' a tentative date to open bids for the new boiler and its auxiliaries. The Light Plant has been faced with voltage drops on the Chester Pike and Mr. Beck reported that a sub-station would have to be built to maintain proper voltage. Upon investigation it was learned that a strip of land now used by the Reid Hospital for parking, belonged to the City. The Hospital Board has given its approval to locating a sub-station on a part of this ground. A sub-station will be built on this site as soon as materials are ordered and delivered. Mr. Beck reported that residents in the area of the Berry Field Addition have reauested street .lighting. He advised that a plan could be worked out whereby an assessment of approximately n60. 00 per fixture per year could be offered. Mr. Beck will investigate and determine just what is desired and report to the Light Plant Committee before submitting a proposition to the Berry Field resi- dents for final vote. Mr. Beck reported that he has been studying the American Aggregates site for the new plant and has a list of engineers who are qualified to make surveys for water in said area. It was agreed that before any further steps would be taken all Councilmen, who could so arrange, would make a group visit to the American Aggregates site on Saturday • morning at 9: 30 A.M. The site near the Disposal Plant will also be visited. The Committee allowed the claims in the amount of $87, 828. 69.
