HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-20-1950 246 PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1950. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the office of the Board of Public Works and Safety in the City Hall in said City, Monday, February 20, 1950, at g: 3O P.M. Councilman Harris presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Baldwin, Chambers, Eastman, Law, Marino, Myers, Russell and Tracy. The following proceedings were had, to-wit:. On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimously, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The following gentlemen were present and introduced to the committee mem- bers by the presiding officer: Mr. Duncan of the Crosley Corp. , Mr. Brown of the International Harvester Company, Mr. Fosnight of the Perfect Circle Co. , and Mr. Brewer of the Aluminum Seal Co. These,gentlemen appeared before the committee to discuss the recent action this committee took on the contract of the Light Plant and the Indiana-Michigan Electric Co. Mr. Brown and Mr. Duncan expressed that it was their belief that the City should maintain the stand-by service and that their plants were planning an expan- sion program in the near future and would like to be advised if the Light Plant would be able to supply the demand. Councilman Harris explained in detail the contract .that the Light Plant had with the Indiana-Michigan Elec- tric Company, the present condition of the equipment of the Plant, the anti- cipated plans for getting the present equipment in good repair and the future new equipment that will be placed in the Plant.. Councilman Harris speaking for himself and also f"or the vote that was cast in the decision of discontinuing the present contract of the ,interconnection. It was pointed out that if and when the time might arise that the Light Plant could not take care of the demand of the current needed, the committee would immedi- ately go into negotiations with the several Public Utilities for an inter- connection service. The committee was trying to run the Light Plant on a sound business basis and also give as little uninterrupted service as pos- sible. Mr. Beck reperted that the Plant has 45 days supply of coal on hand. He appreciated the splendid job that Mr. Mutchner had done in being able to have such a good supply of coal on hand. The committee authorized Mr. Beck to work in full cooperation with the State Authorities on any rule that may go into effect to conserve coal. The committee authorized Mr. Beck to work with the Electrical Dealers of the City with plans for the Electrical Show that is to be held in the month of May, 1950. The committee allowed claims in the amount of $108,448.78. Of this amount, the follow3,i ,transfers were allowed: Transfer the sum of $110.8g from the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash to the Operating Cash Fund; Transfer the sum of $21,000.73 from the Cash Operating Fund to the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash.
