MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN
CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING
AND POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MONDAY
JANUARY 16, 1950.
The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a'committee
in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power
Plant, met in regular session in the office of the Board of Public Works
and Safety in the City Hall in said City, Monday, January 16, 1950,. at 8:30
o'clock P.M.. Councilman Harris presiding with the following members being
present: Messrs. Baldwin, Chambers; Eastman, Law, Marino, Myers, Russell
and Tracy. The following proceedings were had, to-wit:.
On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimously, the minutes of the
previous meeting were dispensed with.
Mr. Roland Nusbaum, representing the W.K.B.V. Radio Station, appeared before
the committee to explain briefly the .proposed outline of a 26 weeks' program
on the air for the Light Plant. No action was taken on said proposal at this
time. •
- Mr. Beck reported that the Plant has a 50 day supply of coal with 32 cars.
enroute. It was pointed out by Mr. Beck that any and all•of the transit coal
could be seized if needed elsewhere.
Mr. Beck presented a proposal from the Westinghouse Company of giving the
employees on the Light Plant payroll, the opportunity to purchase the West-
inghouse appliances at the Westinghouse dealer 'cost. Councilman Eastman
moved that Mr. Beck be authorized to accept the Westinghouse proposal; second-
ed by Councilman Russell, and on voice vote the motion was unanimously carried.
- Mr. Beck presented two proposals for a new welder to be used at the Light
Plant as follows:
The Sutton-Garten Company $485.00 plus $100.00 for pneumatic tires;
The'Hobart Company • $525.00.
Councilman Law moved that Mr. Beck be authorized to purchase the Sutton-
Garten welder at the above quoted price plus the price for pneumatic tires.
-Seconded by Councilman Marino and on voice vote the motion was unanimously
carried.
Councilman Marino moved that Mr. Beck be authorized to enter into contract to
retain the services of Mr. E. L. Carter, Consulting Engineer for the study and
recommendations of rate justification program. Councilman Tracy seconded
this motion and on voice vote the motion was unanimously carried.
Councilman Russell moved that Mr. Beck be given authority to contact the of-
ficials of The Indiana-Michigan Electric Company and plan a meeting between
the committee and the said officials for a discussion of Interconnection Con-
tact for the Light Plant. Councilman Eastman seconded this motion and on
voice vote the motion was unanimously carried.
. The claims in the amount of $268,698.74 were allowed. Of this amount,were
included the following transfers:_ $175,000.00 to the Civil City for the year
1950; $326.32 from the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash to the General Fund
Cash; and $21,098.37 from the General Fund Cash to the Depreciation Reserve
Fund Cash.
