HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-07-1949 day MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1949. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting, and Power Plant, met in regular session in the office of the Board of Public Works and Safety in the City Hall in 'said City, Monday, November 7, 1949, at 9-:30 "o'clock P.M. , Councilman Chambers presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Baldwin, Eastman, Law, Maino, Myers, Russell and Tracy., The follow- ing proceedings were had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimously, the minutes of the prev- ious meeting were dispensed with. Mr. Don Bell, Mr. B. J. Young and Mr. Lowell King appeared before the committee to discuss the increase of insurable valuation of the Light Plant equipment and the Administration Building equipment, as was brought out in the regular meet- ing of the Light Plant Committee of October 17, 1949. Mr. Bell, spokesman for this group, recommended that the accident insurance at the Light Plant be in,- creased to One Million Dollars ($1,000,000); the accident insurance of the Administration Building be increased to Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000); and 'the portable equipment of the Light Plant remain the same - Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ($25,000). After much discussion on this subject, Councilman Marino moved that the recommendation of Mr. Bell be accepted, and that the policies be taken out with The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company for a three (3) year period. Councilman Eastman seconded this motion, and on voice vote the motion was carried unanimously. • Mr. Beck advised the committee that the Light Plant has on hands sufficient amount of coal to run for a period of 46 days. Mr. Mutchner, Chief Engineer, reported that he had contracted for 10,000 tons of coal that would be shipped at the rate of 500 tons of coal per week from Madison, Kentucky. The committee authorized Mr. Beck to investigate what 'portion of the cost the East Richmond Airport would bear in the relocation of the overhead wires that now create a hazard to flying at said airport. The committee allowed the claims in the amount of $48,414.0S. Of this amount, there was a transfer of $2,030.65 from the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash to the General Fund Cash.
