HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-19-1949 236 MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL, SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH, 1949. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the office of the Board of Public Works and Safety in the City Building in said City, Monday, September 19th,19L9, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. (C.S.T. ), Councilman Chambers presiding, with the follow- ing members being present: Messrs. Baldwin, Eastman, Harris, Law, Marino, Myers and Russell. The following proceedings were had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Mr. Beck advised the members, that the Plant has on hand nearly 20,181 tons of coal. This amount will hold the Plant for a period of time between Christ- mas and New Years. Every effort will be taken to purchase coal during the coal strike. Council unanimously complimented Mr. Beck on the way that he had been far- sighted enough to see that this above supply of coal had been purchased for the Plant. On motion, duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously, the committee voted to furnish current to the building located at 625 Main Street, which will house. the display of the local Fire Department of "fire fighting" equipment during the week 'of October 9th, 1949. This is in conjunction with the "Fire Preven- tion" week. On motion duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously, the committee voted to give free current and technical help for the Christmas Lighting project that , the Richmond Retail Merchants have sponsored in the years past. The committee approved the following installation of street lights: North C between Ft. Wayne Ave. & N. 5th St; South J between Sth & 9th Sts; North 17th between E & Penna. R.R. ; Boyer St. between Northwest K & L Sts; Ratliff St. between L & M Sts; Ratliff St. between:M & N Sts; Hunt St. between M & N Sts; Hunt St. between L & M Sts; Hunt St. between K & L Sts; Harris St. between L & M Sts. , near Laird St; Harris St. between M & V.,Sts. , near Gardner St; Northwest 17th St. 1/2 block North of Main; SouthweAt A b been 8th & 9th Sts; Southwest 1st St. bet�;een C & D Sts; South llth & L Sts;..lard'Bridge:Ave. & White- water Blvd. The committee considered the following request for street lights and disapproved their installation: South 23d St. , between Main & South A Sts; North 8th St. at dead end; and Peacock Road between 6th & 7th Sts. The committee allowed claims in the amount of $84,031.58. Of this amount, there were the following transfers: $10,376.43 transferred from the Depre- ciation Reserve Fund Cash to the General Fund Cash; $21,014.36 transferred from the General Fund Cash to the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash.
