HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-18-1949 224 • MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, IND. , MONDAY, APRIL 1g, '1949. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant, met in regular session in the`office of the Board of Public Works and Safety in the, City Building in said City, Monday, April la, 1949, at 8:30 P.M. otclock. Councilman Harris presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. Baldwin, Eastman, Law, Marino, Myers., Russell and Tracy. The following pro- ceedings were had; to-wit: ' The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The committee unanimously approved of concurring with the motion that was adopt- ed in the regular Council Meeting of the future meetings to be held on Daylight Savings Time. Mr. Beck also stated that the operation of the plant and office of the Light Plant would operate on the Daylight Savings ,Time. Mr. Beck reported that the linemen of the plant had filed a formal request for a raise in the pay for all .linemen of the plant. The request was -in the form of contract memorandum by Local #564, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, American Federation of Labor. Mr. Beck stated that the City has no contract with the Union and that no Union is recognized. Most of the linemen do carry cards in this Union. No action was taken on this request,by Council, but was referred to Mr. Beck to study and make recommendations at the next meeting. The committee askad Mr. Beck to investigate need for revision of pay rates for all plant employees and report his recommendations at the next meeting. Councilman Russell moved that the General Manager of the Light Plant be authoriz- ed to make purchases of materials for the plant to the amount of $800.00 with- out authorization of the committee, and all materials in the excess of $800.00 to be purchased to be referred to the committee before said purchase is made. Councilman Baldwin seconded this motion and. on voice vote of the committee, it was unanimously approved that the ]motion be adopted and so ordered. The committee approved the following installations of street lights in various parts of the city: South 7th St. between L and M Streets; South E St. between 19th and 20th Streets; South 26th St. '(Brown Drive); ' North 20th and Hawkins Road; Ridge St. between Northwest M and N; Northwest D St. between ,9th arid 1lth Streets; and Peacock and West 9th Streets. - The committee rejected the following installations of street lights as'•request- ed: South C St. between-7th and gth 'Streets; North A St. between 19th and 20th Streets; North C St. between lath and 19th Streets; North C St. between 16th and 17th Streets; Southwest 15th, 16th, and 17th Streets - National Road South . to end of streets, and Newman Hill. • Mr. Beck is to advise the Board of Public Works and Safety of the above action. • The committee allowed claims in the amount of $80,074.52. Of this amount, ' $8,276.81 was transferred from the Depreciation Reserve Fund Cash to the General Fund Cash. There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the committee, Councilman Tracy moved to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Law, and carried unani- -mously. 64,0 Chairman ./1•0_ Attest: City rk
