HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-07-1949 219 MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE- OPERATION-OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC , , LIGHTING- AND POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RIOHWOND, I-NDIANA, MONDAY, -MARCH 7, 1949. The Common Council of the City of Richmond,Indiana,met in regular.-session- in the office of the- Board of ,Public Works and Safety in- the--City Building,-in. said City, Monday, March 7, 1949--at 8:30 oaclock P.M. Councilman:.Chambers- presiding with the following--members being presents- Messrs. Baldwin,Eas-tnan , Harris, Law, Marino, Myers, Russell andTracy. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Councilma Tracy moved-that the future meetings of the'-committee- be- held :in the office of the Board of Works, seconded by Councilman Eastman and carriedbyi-vote°.?' :• of the committee and so ordered. Councilman Myers questioned--the Coal Companies that the Plant had been purchasing coal from. Mr. Beck explained--that the Plant had been receiving very good coal for storage purposes at a-very reasonable -price. -It was explained as a very good in- vestment for the Plant as this coal can be used now or any future period. The prices of Indiana- coal had been lowered somewhat to compete with the better grade of coal. - - Cr.7.1 Councilman- Harris -reported-that- he had made a personal investigation of the Gibbs- p-. Hill Engineering Co., by contacting Mr. Dan Hess of the-Indianapolis Power and Light-Go. The reports from Mr. Hess -were--very favorable. Councilman Law also re- ported-that he had investigated -the- Gibbs-Hill Co. through-:the- Indianapolis--Power Co., and the -reports on their past-work was very favorable. Councilman Russell re. ported that he hadcontacted the Edison Co., of Chicago,Ill., and ther.sreport was very favorable in regards to the Gibbs-Hill Co. Councilman- Harris moved that the committee authorize- Mr. Beck to enter into a con- tract with the Gibbs-Hill Engineering Company to make an engineering survey of the M.E.L.&P.P. pursuant to the recommendations they have previoulsy made. This was seconded by Councilman Russell and carried unanimously by the committee and so ordered. - Mr. Beck reported that he had made an investigation of the contract that the John Mueller & Company had with the M.E.L.& P.P. in regards to engineering work done at the plant. .This:investigation was made by g&ing back over all the Work Orders of the Plant that were issued-rfor the engineering work done. The orginal contract called for $25,000.00. Mr. Beck offered a compromise figure of 15% to be deducted • from the orginal, plus credits payable to other concerns. In addition to this amount-a 5% engineering fee on the total cost of extra work was added,resulting in a total of $12,880.97 that was due the John Mueller Estate. Thsi figure was very favorable to the Estate. Councilman Tracy moved that the sum of $12,880.97 be paid to the Mueller Estate as a settlement of the engineering work done by the John Mueller & Company,providd ing all the drawings of the engineering work be relinguished to the plant. Colin. oilman Russell seconded this motion and it was carried unanimously by the committee and so ordered. Councilman Harris moved that the following Resolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED,that the action of the light Plant Committee taken under date of September 20,1948, be recinded and, - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that hereafter,subject to the approval of the Public Serv- ice Commission of Indiana,Earlham College be granted the same rate as it be entitled I to if it were in fact, situated within the corporate limits of the City of Rich.. mond,Indiana,without any primary metering discount. This motion was secondee by Councilman Tracy and the following vote was recorded: Ayes-$,Noes-1. Councilman Marino voting in the negative. The vote being in favor of the adoption of the Resolution and so orderee. Councilman Marino moved that the committee report to the Board of Works that it is recommended that the installation of approximately 10 street lights be installed along the Williamsburg Pike from Sheridan Street to the R.R. crossing near the Crosley Plant. This motion was seconded by Councilman Myers and' carried unanimously by the committee. Mr. Beck advised all members of the committee to make an investigation of the pet- itions for street lights and their locations and report to the committee the rec- 220 Claims in the amou}4t of $ 89,861.67 were allowed. Of this amount $20,587.29 was transferred from the General Fund Cash to. the -Depreciation. Reserve Fund Cash. On proper motion and seconded, the committee voted unanimously to adjourn.
