A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD APPROVING
THE INSTALLATION OF LEFT HAND TURN LANES ON EAST BOUND AND WEST
BOUND DIRECTIONS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. BOULEVARD AND STATE
STREET INTERSECTION
WHEREAS, residents have expressed their concern with traffic and pedestrian
accidents they have witnessed at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and State Street
Intersection; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department provided the City with traffic
collision reports, which showed the history of accidents during the last 5 years at this
location; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has inspected the location and
reviewed the traffic collision reports and due to the light traffic at that location and the
accident history, a signalized Traffic Signal is cost prohibitive and is not justifiable; and
WHEREAS,. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. is wide enough to accommodate for left
turn lanes; and
WHEREAS, the striping of the new left turn lanes would take 6 -8 weeks and it
would cost approximately $8,000; and
WHEREAS, staff has identified funding for the striping of the left turn lanes which
is available in the Paving Marking Improvement; account No. 4011.67.920.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council authorizes the installation of the left turn lanes
along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, and State St. intersection.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 18th day of November, 2014.
