RESOLUTION NO. 24-059
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING MAY 12TH -MAY 18TH
2024 AS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK; ALLOCATING TWO
THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A RECOGNITON
PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support,
while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to
those who gave their lives in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which
designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls
as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the
world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which
honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, during the week of National Police Week there is a desire for the City to
recognize certain police employee and allocate a total amount not to exceed Two
Thousand, Five Hundred ($2,500.00) for a recognition program; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City to recognize
May 12th -18th 2024 as National Police Week and designate Two Thousand Five Hundred
Dollars for a recognition program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. ADOPTION OF RECITALS. The recitals to the preamble herein are
incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION
The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka, Florida hereby authorizes the City
Manager to recognize May 12th -May 18th 2024 as National Police Week and allocate Two
Thousand Five Hundred Dollars for a recognition program for certain employees.
SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS
Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of
typographical errors which do not affect the intent may be authorized by the Interim City
Manager following review by the City Attorney, without the need of a public hearing by
filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk.

SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the
Governor or Governor's Designee.

Short Title:
A resolution of the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka recognizing May 12th -18th
2024 as National Police Week.
The elite women and men of the Opa-locka Police Department (OLPD) continue to work
diligently to protect and serve the City. Their unwavering dedication has resulted in a
significant decrease in crime rates. OLPD has introduced many community engagement
initiatives that have become instrumental in building the bridge between law enforcement
and residents. Therefore, City Administration finds it in the best interest of the City to

recognize May 12th -18th 2024 as National Police Week. National Police Week is a
collaborative effort to honor the law enforcement community. This opportunity will allow
for the City to highlight the outstanding work and individuals within the Department while
also commemorating the service and sacrifices of the trailblazers and fallen officers.
Financial Impact-
During the week of National Police Week there will be a few Employee Recognition events
scheduled which will not exceed a total of $2,500.00. This will be funded by the following:
