HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 24-060 - Resolution recognizing May 19th - May 24th, 2024 as National Public Works and Public Service WeekSponsored By: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 24-060 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING MAY 19TH THROUGH MAY 24th, 2024 AS NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS AND PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK AND RECOGNIZING THE THEME "ADVANCING QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL" AS THE NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS THEME AND RECOGNIZING THE THEME POSTER; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, American Public Works Association (APWA) has adopted "Advancing Quality of Life for All" as the 2024 National Public Works Week Theme and has adopted a theme poster; and WHEREAS, the public services provided in our community are essential in enhancing the residents' quality of life; and WHEREAS, the Public Works staff helps keep the City of Opa-Locka ("City") to provide services that focus on public safety, code compliance, licensing, infrastructure, transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste/illegal dumping, public buildings (facilities), parks and ground maintenance (beautification); and WHEREAS, City residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the work performed by Public Works staff and become more aware of the contributions that staff makes daily to enhance the quality of life for all our residents; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City to recognize May 19th through 24th, 2024 as National Public Works and Public Service Week, as well as recognize City employees who do great work and recognize the national theme "Advancing Quality of Life for All" and the national theme poster. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. ADOPTION OF RECITALS. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. SECTION 2. AUTHORIZATION. The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka, Florida hereby authorizes the City Manager to recognize May 19th through 24th, 2024 as National Public Works and Public Service Week, as well as recognize City employees who do great work and recognize the national theme "Advancing Quality of Life for All" and the national theme poster. Resolution No. 24-060 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGAL SUFFICIENCY: SECTION 3. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS Sections of this Resolution may be renumbered or re -lettered and corrections of typographical errors which do not affect the intent may be authorized by the Interim City Manager following review by the City Attorney, without the need of a public hearing by filing a corrected copy of same with the City Clerk. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect upon the adoption and is subject to the approval of the Governor or Governor's Designee. PASSED and ADOPTED this 24th day of April, 2124. The public services provided in our community are essential in enhancing the residents' quality of life. Through the direction and support from City Administration, the Public Works staff helps keep our city strong by providing services that focus on public safety, code compliance, licensing, infrastructure, transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste/illegal dumping, public buildings (facilities), parks and ground maintenance (beautification). These services could not be provided seamlessly without the relentless efforts of professionals at all levels of municipal government and the private sector.
