MEETING OF THE COMMO}T COUNCIL SERVING AS A
COMMITTEE I7 CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE
MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING & POWER PLANT .
OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, IHDI ANA.
The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a
Committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric Lighting
and Power Plant of said City met in the office of the Board of Works,
Monday, March 4-th, 1946, at 8:30 o'clock P. M. --- Messrs. Brehm,
Chambers, Ewbank , Homan,Kinder,Marino, Russell & Tracy• being present
the following Proceedings were had to-wit;
The reading of the minutes of the preceding meeting was dispensed
with.
On the recommendation of ,.. , Councilman Tracy moved that
the sum of $100,000.00-be transferred from the General Fund Cash of the
M. E. I. & P. P. to the Reserve Fund Cash of the same said Plant. With
a. :seoond by Kinder the motion was unanimously approved.
Mr. Stevens presented a report on the rates of Common labor in the
various industeries of the City.
Mr. Stevens presented a report on Plant Generation'for the month of
February 1946 , showing a production of 6,957,000 k. w. , a decrease of
(2`1 4.9 over the same period of last year 1945, which was 7,313,000. k. w.
eft The Peak load for the month of February , 194+6 was 16,500 k. w.
showing a decrease of 6.8 percent over the same period of last year 1945.
On the recommendation of Mr. Stevens , Mr. Kinder moved the contract
be renewed with the Westinghouse Corp. for a period of one year from March
1st, 194+6 , for the furnishing of transformers for the use of the Light Plant.
With a second by Marino the motion was unanimously approved.
Mr. Stevens reported the damage done on Boyer Street caused by a high
Ill wind releasing a hightension wire onto a lower tension wire had been satis-
factorly taken care of.
The matter of the usual contribution of Electric Current to the Reid
Memorial Hospital was rederred to the next regular meeting;
Mayor Britten appeared before the Committee in regard to the flood lights
which had been previously ordered for the Hard Ball Park from the General
Electric Company, the Mayor stated a report received from the General Electric
Company was to the fact that,that Company could not furnish the equippment in
time for the opening of the Base Ball season. Mr. Penn Retherford representative
of the General Electric Company was present and state due to strikes and etc.
his Company would not be able to install the Lights at the Ball Park as was
anticipated by the Company in time for the opening of the Base Ball Season.
F. B. Fredrick , representing the Fredrick Lighting and Manufacturing Co.
Inc. appeared before the Committee and stated he had the material necessary
to install the equippment at the Base Ball Park for for lighting by the time
for the opening of the base ball season he also exibited pictures showing some
of his installation at various other base ball parks and gave a description of
lights and fixtures to be installed, and after considerable discussion on the
matter with Mr. Stevens and all those present Mr. Brehm made the following
motion that ;
In as much as Mr. Penn Retherford representing the General Electric
Company has appeared before this body with the statement that his company is
unable to fulfill the delivery of the Electric Lighting System at the Municipal
Ball Park in time -for the opening of said Base Ball Park that the contract for
the installatioi of said lights be awarded to the Frederick Lighting & Manu-
facturing Company Inc. of Akron, Ohio pursuaht to a written proposal submitted
by said Company and providing said Company furnishes an acceptable performance
Bond, and all previous orders be canceled.
After allowing claims in the amount of $40,592.01 on proper motion
the meetin djourned.
