HomeMy Public PortalAbout19280619SCMeetingBE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the authority aforesaid that any person or persons,violating any of the provisions of this ordinance,shall upon conviction,in Police Court of the Town of Tybee,be fined in a sum not to exceed 100.00 and be imprisoned not.to exceed thirty days,either or both,or.any part of either or both, in the discretion of the Court. BE IT-LFURTHER ORDAINED by the authority aforesaid that all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed,. A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by the Mayor,who presided,and Councilmen `dalthour,Espy, Farr,Logan,Town Attorney McIntyre and Mr. H.F.Sharpley,Ass't Chief Engineer of The Central of Georgia Railway Co., The Mayor informed Council that his reason for calling a special session was because the condition existing at Lovell Station caused by the continued erosion of the beach,and particularly that caused by the tides just recently necfassitated that some must be done immed- ately to make an effort to stop the gradual washing array of the beach, the Sunday tides had eaten away a proximately 10 feet of it,he had taken the matter up with Mr Pelley of the C of Ga Ry and Mr Pelley has appointed Mr.Sharpley to represent the railroad with authority to negmtiate,ana also to discuss any plan that will tend to remedy the situation existing -- the Mayot that since last September approximately 60 feet of beach has washed away with the loss of thousands of dollars to the property owners,the Town has four streets in the affected area that must nrotected,the:,.asphalt paving on Butler avenue which is part of the 110,000.00 street system is only about 30 feet awa_- from the high water mark now,if something is not done Butler avenue will be cut in half within another year,he asked if the Town could make a special levy in an emergency of thes.kind -- Mr Cann'�Lsuggested calling a meeting of all property owners at Lovell Station and ask them to assist,Mr. `'althour suggested getting all people interested to attend. a special meeting and find out how much each one will give,— Mr. Logan suggested calling a meeting for next Tuesday at 6.p.M.at !irst street on the beach at Lovell Station scu that. those atteneing can see for themselves exactly the serious condition existing there. The Mayor then said that he would call a meeting of the property owners. for Tuesday next at 6:00 p.m.at First street on the beach at Lovell Station.
