HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-17-1941 22 MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL,SERVING AS A COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF THE OPERATION OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING & POWER PLANT OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,. The Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, serving as a Committee in charge of the operation of the Municipal Electric, Lighting & Power Plant of the said City, met in the office of the Board of Works, Monday, .November 17th, 1941, at 9:00 olclock P. M. Messrs. Chambers, Hibberd, Homan, Kinder; Tr.abrand•Wilkins'being present the following proceedings were had to-wit; The minutes of the preceeding were read and approved. Mr. Stevens reported the Retail Merchants Association had requ- ested Council to approve a donation of electric current for the use of Xmas lights on the streets as of previous years and after some • discussion Mr. Tracy moved that Council comply with the request of the Retail Merchants as of previous years except that no lights shall be turned on' of mornings, with a second by Wilkins the motion . was approved unanimously. • On the recommendation of Mr. Stevens, Mr. Kinder moved the sum- of $30,000.00 be transferred from -the General Fund of the Municipal, Electric Light to the Depreciation Reserve Fund of the same said Plant, and with a second by Homan the motion was approved. A -letter was presented by Mr. Stevens to Council from Mr. Lester Snyder Superintendent of the Wayne County Rural Electric Membership Corporation requesting the consideration of suplying their lines with electric current from the Municipal Electric Light Plant. Mr. Stevens stated with the present load of near 15,000 k. w. he could not state if it 'would be advisable>.to take on the extra load of approximately 400 k. w. at this time,also stating their contract with the Public Service- Co. for supplying current would not expire until September 1942 and with the possibility of slow delivery on part of the new equipment now being installed it deservee further consideration° After rfirther discussion the Matter was referred to Mr. Stevens for a report later . A report was made that the House of Magic an electric display which had been an attraction at the Chicago and New Yank Fairs would appear at Civic Hall December 19th and continue for three - afternoon and two evening displays. Mr. Stevens recommended the salaries of the employees of the Light Plant be increased at to operating cost in the amount of 5.4 percent : which .eauals a near flat lOcents an hour increase, effective November 16th, 194+19 Mr. Homan moved that the recommendation of Mr. Stevens be adopted and with asecond by Wilkins the motion was approved by unanimous voice vote. Mr. Tracy then moved that the salary of-Mr. Stevens also be in- cluded with the other employees and with a second by Wilkins the motion was approved.
