The Mayor informed Council that there would be a small surplus of un- used materiels from the Jetty work that is being done at Lovell Station' and. said that he thought it would be a good idea to sell it if it was fould that it co 1d not be used any other place,the opinion of Council ;, was that the Mayor be given the authority to dispose of it to th interests of the Town. The matter of ficnishing up the shelling of Ninth street between Butler and Third avenues was discussed and it was decided t3ia.t this street s o_ild be completed. Council decided that the taking over and maintaining of the 20 foot strip of land adjacent to the property of Mr 0.J.Oliver and his associa could not be done at this time,it was decided that if Mr. Oliver and his associates would agree to pay for the -,aterials needed to pave this strip that the Town would lay same and grade t e strip. Mr.Car_n said that in his opinion the Town should not accept any small strips-of land for private uses. Mr Espy read co letter from Mrs..Fdelaine "Graham requesting that Thir_t street from Butler avenue to the :,.each be opened for her ti. she was the holder of considerable property in that immediate vicinity. l'fo action was taken by Council. Good:::an informed Council that he had been instructed to make a street around the property of LID.. ?red Haar situated between Lazaretto Creek and Estill Station,Council expressed surprise at. this,and Mr C Bann said t-at The Town authorities should b: consulted whenever work of this nature was to be done. The regular meeting of Town Council,was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by the Mayor, •ho presided,and Councilmen Logan,Espy,Walthour and Farr,also Mesrrs.C.E.Alexander and Sam Bernstein. The Mayor brought up the matter of the petition of Mr..J.Solms rela- tive to oepening up the Strand from Si3teenth to Seventeenth streets, the Mayor informed Council that Mr. Solms asked that,if the property Sowners agreed to furnish materials would the Town put same dovrn,the opinion of Council was that it could see no objection to this and it was decided to have him get the property owners together,get their views and subMit same to Council. A letter from Mayor Saussy was read thanking the Town for the flowers sent him at his inaugaration. 110 A card from the family of Judge Albert Wylly was read thankinz Town for the 'flowers sent to the funural of Judge Wylly. A new street light will be placed at the corner of Byers street and the automobile road. Mr. Bernstei0 appeared before Council requesting a reduction in his 1928 taxes on the Tybee 'Ihite House property,the Town Attorney was asked' about this and his opinion was that a reduction of past due taxes could be permitted. Mr. Alexander appered for Mrs R.T.McFadden aid Mrs queenie M.Dale and. Mr. J.J.Dale as executord of the estate of R.T.McFadden,holders of the deed to securedebt of certain property of Mr. E.B.Tzlar-- the property had been advertised for sale for delinquent taxes and other charges and Mr Alexander appeared in the,intetest of his clients to try and effect a settlement with the Town -- Mr.Alexander said that the financial 'condition of Mr Izlar was bad and that his clients wanted to help himlthat an arrangement had been made between Mr.Izlar and Mr. J.J,D&le,as agent for the McFadden estate,whereby all monies derived from the income on the property,after all necessary expenses were deducted,would be paid over the Town until the debt was entirely cleared up -- - the Mayor asked if State and County taxes were paid,Mr Alexander said *No" - - the Mayor said that Mr.Izlar owed a 3 500.00 note for septic tanks will soon owe three years taxes-- Mr. Alexander said that Mr. Dale came to Savannah to try and adjust matter- - Mr. McIntyre asked that if the Town granted concessions asked would Mr. Alexanders8 clients acknowledge the 3 500.00 note as a lien on the property -- Mr. Alexander said that his clients felt that they should have' been notified sooner about Mr.,,Izlars' indebt- edness -- Mr. McIntyre asked who was to operate property,Mr. Alexander said that Mr. Izlar would with Yr Dale klandling the finances -- Mr. McIntyre asked if Mr.Izlar wanted e salary Mr. Alexander said 'that he wanted a small salary -- Er. McIntyre asked if it wouldnt be possible for the McFadden estate to pay 1927 taxes now -- Ur. Cann said that a fixed amount should be paid now and the balance be paid in monthly payments -- Mr. Alexander said that if Council would fix the amount he would submit same to his clients -- the Mayor asked Mr. Espy what he thought of it and. Mr Espy said that Mr Izlar promised to pay monthly and he didnt do it he suggested that 1927 taxes be paid now.and that 1928 taxes be paid after. the coming seasnnstarted Mr. Alexander said that money would not come in until spring when leases were teing signed Mr. Alexander suggested that 3500.00 be paid March lstiand on April lst another 3500.00 be paid -- but Mr Cann said that before the property is withdrawn from sale some pay- ment should be made -- Mr. Farr said:that the Towm had the money it would be glad to hold off but that the Town needed moneyas much as Mr. Izlar -- the Mayor suggested that 4 500.00 beHpaid.now and baince April 1st -- Mr. Alexander said. that he submit same.to. his clients -- the Mayor then suggested that 4 500.00 be paid. now 3 500.00 be paid April 1st and during the coming season pay up the balance,— due on all charges including the 1929 taxes that will soon be due Mr. Alexander said that he would submit the arrangement to hid clients. immediately and that he expected to have the 500.00 by next Monday in time to hold up the sale of the property,Mr Alexander was excused and before departing he thanked. Council in beheaf of his clients -- Council was of the opinion that the above mentioned plan was the best that could be 'done under the circumstances and instructed the Mayor to handle same on that basis.
